avalanche in lionshead today

Saw a group of riders trigger a large slide today. Side cutting large open hillsides after there days of snow. So predictable and so sad. Don't know of any results yet.

GNFAC says 2 snowmobilers were partially buried, sounds like everyone was ok.
I was there the middle of Jan and the snow was so sketchy we tippy toed around the whole time and decided not to go back for the rest of the year.

Maybe this one? Scary stuff while the first guy is sliding and keeps going under. Notice how the air bag on the second guy is pulled way up like it was trying to get pulled over his head.

Glad they made it out. Regarding the pack riding up on the second rider. Wondering if he was using the leg strap or if the leg strap was loose?

I've never ridden with my leg straps....but I've seen a couple of videos in the last month that make me reconsider that.

The douche bag idiot that triggered it rode right past two dudes getting a stuck out - that's when he yells out to them, then proceeds to drop a slide on them. He needs a "I'm a lucky moron" tattoo. You think he realizes his good fortune? Given the other burials, no one would have gotten to him for 20 minutes. Dumb move upon dumb move. Just look at the wind load on the top, which is another reason that LH slides in so many places. So, did they learn anything, or go hammer it again, just on another slope? Nothing else said about it on avy.org. I would guess the invincibles were hitting it again.

If you're not wearing your leg strap, you might as well just leave the airbag pack at home. The leg strap keeps the pack from getting pulled off your body and from the sternum strap choking you. Has to be snug enough to keep the sternum strap from ending up at your neck.

Thanks MIke. That settles it for me then.

if you are truly 21

you have many " breaks" to go through.. avys close calls etc.

i wish you good fortune and luck!!

sometimes...your luck just runs out.

you do everything right and you still get screwed.

same hill 2 years ago

Same exact spot I rode past this hill on the 4th of feb. this year and dropped down instead of staying to the right where we usually sneak by it. Just looked way too dicey and I've known it to slide in the past.

I understand that. Even at 21, i have the sense not to be an idiot on that hill. I don't always make the best decisions, but i TRY not to make decisions that will endanger the lives of others. If one of my riding buddies went above me and buried me like that they would be putting in a dental insurance claim.
