Auto play video add with sound???

Last time I was on here the little video add would play but there wasn't any sound unless you put your mouse on it. Now the sound plays automatically every time you change pages. This is super annoying when you have internet radio playing for the entire office. Is there any way to disable the sound?

Go to your main menu bar.
Click on USERCP on the far left side.
Then choose UPGRADE TO NO ADS.
That will shut it down and you will never see it again.

Meanwhile.
I WILL ask Harris once again to TURN OFF the automatic sound.
They agreed NOT to run the video with live sound unless the user mouses over it. Chances are its a new advertiser and a whole new software subroutine that is triggering the sound.

There is a fix though, and since i use the Firefox browser, it was quite easy =)

* Right click on the page you are viewing that has the annoying auto play ad.
* choose "view page info"
* click on Permissions tab
* in the "activate plugins" section, find Adobe Flash, and choose "always ask" to the right of it.
* i choose "always ask" for all of those listed in this section.

Now, when there are videos or other ads that try to play automatically, you just see an icon in the middle of the area where the ad used to be. If you WANT to run the ad, just click on the ad, and you will be asked to "allow" or "allow and remember". ONLY choose the "allow" button, and the video will run for that session only, and will not run again unless allowed again =). If you choose the "allow and remember" you just re-allowed them to run automatically. . . and NOBODY wants that!! =)

There might be some other setting one might want to change as well in this permissions menu. Just scroll down to see what things are chosen by default, and choose "always ask" or "block"

Oh Ya, seriously.
Spend the buck and see the difference.
Its NOT an ad blocker you are paying for.
The difference will be quite dramatic.

I'm highly interested in an ad free premium membership, but not in buying a membership, then "buying" away the ads you purchased with members money.

It's not a real selling point for me that the ad complaints above are from premium members.

Since becoming a member pay site, it went quickly from a mild amount of tolerable ads relevant to our interests to malicious ads for women and environmental activists. (The idiot kind, not those who truly care for and live in the outdoors). I and others need to see what we are purchasing.

Forgive me if I don't offer you blind trust that I will be paying to return to the type of ad free forums that I used to love. I've done that once already and was sorely disappointed with the aggressive advancement in ads.

The members have issued a strong disapproval towards the ad formats, it's wonderful you have found a solution.

Is it really too much to ask to show us a sample before we throw more money into it? I am not at odds with the pricing. I simply want to see what I am buying into. I use this method with all of my financial decisions.

I agree. Being charged as a premium member to turn off the ads is ridiculous. At this point I am also happy to pay an additional amount to further block all messages from Christopher.

Preface - I am all for asking whatever $$ you feel is reasonable for whatever product/service you offer. The market will judge whether it's affordable or not.

That said, you can only milk a cow so much.

- Paying for a forum was already a stretch for me (and I assume many others). I am a member on car, truck and dirtbike forums. All are free, and all are every bit as informative and frequented as this one.
- Those free forums have many less ads in general, and definitely much less intrusive ads.
- Yes there is the option of paying to remove them - however, this is a kick in the nuts after being THE ONLY FORUM most of us already pay for.
- The majority of members paid solely because of the information on here, and because of the knowledgeable member base in general. Not due to some affinity for the Snowest name plate. I've never read a snowmobile magazine in my life, for example.
- This is the most "family friendly" forum I'm on - blocks swears and no nudey girl pics. However, somehow a huge mail order bride ad pops up frequently with a chick in her underwear....seems totally contradictory.

But hey....the powers that be don't have to listen to us. You'll understand the end of that road when you get there. For every person crabbing, there are many more who say nothing...and simply use the site less and less. Because of that....owners should actually be happy members are willing to give opportunities to fix issues.

I am with everyone else this is the only forum I pay to be on but I see that my $$$$ mean nothing to the big boys of SW so why am I paying .
I am sure if people start moving to other sled forums they will be just as good as SW used to be .
