Are license plates for sleds coming next year

I just went to register my dirtbike and they want me to put a license plate on. Its a new law I guess. Not sure if it will stay on but oh well. Does anyone know if we will have to put license plates on sleds next year in Idaho.

this is in idaho? that seems ridiculous. they will got so torn up on dirtbikes i bet.

it would just be that much more money for us taxpayers to pay for. seems like just another reveneue generator. it's possible though.

Is the bike street-legal? or easily convertable to be street-legal?

That's the only reason I could see for it.

Sleds, I don't think they'd ever be ridden on public roads.... can't see that happening.

Nope. They want them on all bikes:mad:. I have a 09 crf 450. I have a plate for it too. Im not putting a plate on a motocross bike, they can eat me. But if someone does want to put the plate on, just bend it to make a nice skid plate;).

here in south dakota they call it a licence plate on our sleds it is a sticker and then you just keep adding a little sticker to it to tell when the month it runs out. Its just like our vehicle plates.

the plate is required for all wheeled off road vehicles, it is actually for fed and state land, the sticker is for the state. you also must be licenced and insured to be on the fed/ state land.

pretty cool huh

New Mexico they give you a license plate to put on your sled. I just moved here so I go to the DMV to register my sled and the dude gives me a license plate. I said were am I suppose to put this, I get this deer in the head light look "I don't know". Needless to say I never put it on. Figures, you've got none recreational users making policy for those of us that do.

Sask has always had plate, they are 3/4s the size of normal. The iq rmk under seat bag is a perfect place for it..... most guy rivit them in their flaps or into the side of their tunnels but theres no f'n way. Im glad they got rid of trail permits. I hated that province shaped sticker......... and i dont even ride trails, but the 300 feet of trail to get out of town is a nice place to get busted.

Hopefully we wont have to put plates on our sleds here in Idaho next season. The dirtbike thing is for sure though. What a pain. I am thinking about not mounting and just sticking the stickers from the plate on my forks so if I get pulled over at least they know I have paid.
I can imagine there will be a ton of plates lying around the dunes. They arent going to stay on a MX bike.

Yeah, I just registered my sled at its like 130 if you get caught with out a plate... 60 if you don't have your registration on you.

Alberta has had plates for sleds/bikes for years. I just carry mine in the backpack/trunk wherever. When I get checked, I show the registration papers and show them the plate in the backpack.....when questioned, I tell them the truth: "there's no plate mount on this sled...so I just carry it". Never been fined.

Frigin A,
Maybe Washington is rubbing off on Idaho, They are thinking of every posible way to rip you off of your hard earned money, to pay for over sized gov. crap.

wonder if out of staters will have to get an Idaho plate?

no f'n way I'm loading my sled up with three different plates, maybe I'll keep a rolodex of plates, and just flip thru to the right state when checked?

Mine is fasten underneath my seat with tie wraps... not a chance i would mount it on my tunnel or even snow flap!

In Montana your required to have offroad stickers to ride trails on bike and atv's and plates if you want to ride the roads. we rode an atv poker run a few weeks ago. around 500 atv's The forest service sat on the road were the trails crossed the roads. and checked every atv for plates. 90 dollar ticket if you crossed the road without the plate. There was alot of pissed of people. I can imagine plates will be required on sleds soon. since alot of the trails are really roads.

we have reg stickers in MN....but I kinda wish they would give me a plate for my 2 stroke bike....man ohh man would a 125 be fun in the city:D
