Are license plates for sleds coming next year

Although they are dealer plates!:)

Thanks for using a dealer plate. It really helps fund our grooming....:(

This plate thing is stupid!!!! Like was said above all it is is a revenue thing. Something else to go along with this is last summer while camping with our family our group was pulled over by a friendly local sheriff. My nephew was riding my Suzuki 90 4-wheeler on the dirt road with us to the trail head which was about a mile from camp. The wheeler has a flag on it, an ATV sticker, and he was wearing a helmet and proper riding gear. He knows that when ever a vehicle approaches he is to pull over to the side of the road and wait for it to pass. I thought I was doing everything legal right? I soon learned I wasn't. The sheriff told me that it was illegal for him to be riding the ATV on the dirt road because he did not have a valid drivers licence and proof of insurance. So I ask him how are we supposed to get to trails around camp? He replies we would need to trailer it or have an adult ride it to the trail heads when we wanted to ride it. He then tells me he is out of his jurisdiction because we are in a different county but if he could he would issue me a ticket. I haven't said much up to this point but once he tells me he is not even in his county of jurisdiction the anger sharks in my head start swimming! Somehow I was able to control my mouth because I have a respect for law enforcement being is I am in a related field of work but I tell him in my opinion my nephew is being a safer rider than some of the people I see ripping down the road at high speeds with no regard for who else is on it. He replys that may be true but he still needs a drivers licence to ride on the road. I realize this conversation isn't going to go anywhere with him so I let him finish telling me the law again and let him be on his way. I figure this is a ticket I am willing to risk because I am not going to tell my kids they can't go riding with us because they can't ride on a dirt road. I don't know of anyone else who has ran into this and I know a lot of people who ride with their families. Is this the norm everywhere or did I just run into the one sheriff who is actually wanting to inforce this? Also my buddies and I were talking the other day about how long it will be until they require you to have a motorcycle endorcement on your drivers licence to ride your dirt bike on a county maintained dirt road? Like Calvin42 said I am tired of non recreational users making policy for those of us that do ride. The other thing I am worried about is how much do think our sled registration stickers will go up for next year since our wonderful Gov. Otter just proposed to cut the Parks and Recreation budget by 56% for the upcoming year? All these fees are already getting a little out of control!

gets worse every year doesn't it?

won't be long and it'll be illegal to step foot on public land

seriously wondering if I should even do the motorsports thing with my kids, would be torture to get em hooked on something then have it taken away in a few years. (not really)

still pizzes me off though

In Alberta we have to run a plate on sleds and dirt bikes, it's not so bad on a sled, there is usually a flat spot to put a small plate, but a dirt bike is a different story. What we do is take a photocopy of our plate on a color copier onto sticker material. You can even re-size it abit to fit your rear fender if you want. We keep the real plate in the truck if they want to see it, but so far this has worked out perfect. I just wish that the money we pay for off road registration went to trail development, not back into Highways.

My Saskatchewan plate stays in the truck and I carry my registration. Never had a problem yet, other than one knob of a RCMP that used to be stationed in town that just loved to nitpick everyone under the age of 20 to death.

I think all OHVs require a plate in NM and have for years! Its completely stupid and one more reason I live in NM but ride in CO.

Yup plates this year along with many more closed trails :( part of the reason there going to the plate is being able to identify you better when in closed areas. Also any maintained road cannot be used by any atv rider that does not have a drivers licence. my daughter is really upset because a lot of the roads we use are maintained but that's the only way from camp to the trails. spoke with several officers that patrol the area and laws will be heavily enforced.
You will see it on sleds in the next few years I would bet on it :(

This is not news to most of us... it's been widely discussed (and bashed) for the past 6 months or so. Absolutely stupid, and it stems from people putting a plate on their 4 wheelers and riding them on state highways and such (and no I don't mean crossing the road, I mean driving down the road like a car).

Yeah, I just registered my sled at its like 130 if you get caught with out a plate... 60 if you don't have your registration on you.

i never carry my registration...............frick, i didnt know you needed it! candle got a foot monday and my plates are done right away,
