Apex vs 800 class sleds - shoot me now

As much as I would have liked to try an Apex or Nytro, the logistics of it all (500 miles from the mtns) didn't work this time. I'm picking up an M8 163 Saturday.

Now, if anyone with an Apex or Nytro wants to ride the Snowy Range Jan 9-10, let me know. Headed that way later today and would like to see how these machines perform.

:D
like a summit 800r with a 300 pound guy and a apex with a 150 pounds guy who would go higher ??????????

overall sled with rider weight would be nearly the same

Exactly, lets see if weight is the only factor. I get lots of track speed and my clutching is good as well. I weigh about 275 with gear on so add that to the Apex and I gotta be approaching 1000lbs. The fact that I can even make it to the cabin is remarkable!:D

I have been wanting to buy a Yamaha sled for the last three year snow.

Yamaha quality is second to none.

But, I cannot for the life of me, figure out how they can make 220-lb 450 4-stroke dirt bikes but they can't figure out how to make even a sub 550-lb 4-stroke snowmobile in the top motor class.

And 550-lbs is being VERY forgiving to them considering that is _STILL_ 100 friggen pounds heavier than the competition ..... nowithstanding, their current offering is *150 POUNDS HEAVIER* ....

I mean seriously...

HELLO YAMAHA, HELLO?????? ANYONE IN THERE???? HELLO!!!!....

If yamaha could make even a sub 530-lb sled there would be a mass exodus to buy Yamaha ....

I have to agree, as much trash as I talk about Yama-tanks I would buy a Nytro in a heartbeat if it were 100lbs lighter, and then add my own SC or Turbo kit. They last forever and the build quality is excellent, but, they are so damn heavy, they ride well but just weigh too much for the type of riding I do, in particular the getting stuck part. Aside from that they just do not compare to 2 stroke 800's, the hp to weight ratio is to far off, even turbo to turbo comparisons they do not do as well, better, but not as well, even though you can run more boost on a pump gas 4 stroke. Race gas point and shoot sleds I can not outrun them, not even close, but pump gas I can, but it is closer. I do hope that they get the weight down for next year, I was hoping for more weight loss in the 2010 Nytro MTX and they are lighter, lets hope they keep getting it lighter for the next set or replace the Apex with a true high HP lightweight sled. I believe I would even part with the beloved PGT Dragon for that.

Yup I agree..my WR450 is amazing machine, the new YZ just over the top.

Come on Yamaha !!! 500 pound 200 HP.....DONE DEAL....even if it cost 15,000.00 Then do a "race" version with 10 lbs boost for 275-300 hp for 20K u would own the market. Damn 20,000.00 300 hp 500 lb with warrenty and a 174 3" track??? AHHHHHH pipe dream but I can hope..never thought BMW would do a 197 hp 400 lb street bike for 13K either........:rolleyes:
