Anyone turbo a two stroke? KTM 300.

I see that KMS has an option to turbo a KTM 300. Anyone have any experience with this? Do you think it would be any additional risk to turbo a two stroke versus a four stroke? Just thinking of options to add HP to the 3-hundy.

If I was looking for more power I'd try a 330 big bore, stroke it, stuff the cases, balance the crank, do some porting and all the other stuff, should get you into the high 60s go at the wheel.... but a turbo could be stupid fun IF its reliable! Wonder how they are planning to fuel a turbo and deal with electronics on one???

Traditionally 2 strokes are pretty tough to turbo when carbed. If you had some electronics to save your a$$ it would be a different story. Pretty easy to destroy a motor when there are no nannies present to save you and your tuning mistakes.

maybe you guys don't remember the old days when guys were turboing ZX's and S-chassis Doos. They worked for about a weekend. BRAAAAP, SQUEEEEEAK!!!

Evidently this is in the works. KMS will be updating us on this forum as progress is made. Some real professionals involved in the development of this, should be the real deal! I cant wait, already offered my scoot as a test platform.

I don't think you are ever going to see high 60's out of a 330. At the crank that is, definitely not at the track. IMHO I am skeptical of the 330, A lot of very proficient KTM tuners warning about the cylinder wall getting very thin and causing uneven cooling in the cylinder all and potentially cracking. 300s get very hot and are prone to overheating in tight slow technical sections. Also in my experience a 10% bore increase is not going to be good for that much HP. Not to mention the Wiseco vs. Vertex piston debate. I am going to be excited to see what my 300sx runs like next to one though that is for sure! might be eating crow.

Thats an old doo for you. :)
The older big block polaris sleds were getting there set ups dialed in just before the EFI cats started taking over. O2 sensors helped a lot with getting your jetting right (AKA not running it too lean) so you dont burn it down.
If a guy looked into turboing a 250 or 300 KTM I bet you would find it would not be a hard project and it would run very very well.

Can be done. I want to build a cr500 turbo next year. The motor alone can put down almost 100hp with little mods. With a turbo for RACE application can put down close to 200 with the unknown on how long it would last. Bottom end is the week link. I'm working with a guy now on this project. Drawing up stuff to build 130-150hp reliable motor. May end up with just a built 500 and no turbo. Time will tell.

anytging that gets changed is a time bomb just a matter of when. But I think it's a reachable goal with the right parts. The guy I'm working with holds the world record for the fastest banshee, and builds a lot of turbo powered bikes, sleds, and sxs. Like I said we are in talkng about option and ways to do it. Its a ways out yet. But anyway you look at it it can still be a solid 80hp and not have any troubles with it.

The worst thing about big bores and turbo is that you lose your dirt bike in the summer which is not ok with me, and having something not reliable is also not something I'm interested in, the places we ride are not possible to walk out or get towed out from. A good running 300 will go anywhere a turbo will go, you're just going to take different lines and ride better to get there, that's the fun part anyway, straight lining a hill is fun but honestly sleds are better for that kind of riding. People get hung up on horsepower and miss the point of these bikes, i'll keep my small bore but i'll pack my tow strap for the guys trying to get super high HP numbers... haha
