Anyone ride the 2010 800 ?

Sorry no, I have an 08 that ran perfectly until the bottom of the cylinder skirt broke off and shot through the bottom of the case. Never a problem with this sled and it was awesome. ALWAYS ran in the 118-122 range. Got the 09 stuff and it burbled at start-up and didn't seem to have the power up top that I had before. I rode it 3 times after that at the end of the season, including a spring day and had major overheating problems while my bro-in-law on his 08 D7 ran in the temps mine used to run. This new 2010 update seems better than the original 08 motor ran. I didn't do any of the updates with the ecu on the original motor even though I had heard of all the horror stories with people and was told I should. I had scuffing on the mag side after 75 miles on the 09 stuff. We will see how this one holds up. I have more revs up high now than before with Carl's clutching although I didn't climb anything too steep or deep...yet. I did see an 8400 rpm on the saved rev screen. Maybe there is a little more power!

Well I finally got to ride my 2010 D8 today for the first time. I already installed SLP intake kit & full exhaust. Also before the first ride I sealed up the airbox really well added vents, and removed all the foam and any non cosmetic stickers.

With a Qt of Blue in the tank it has a terrible mid range stumble. Cut out so bad I actually went over the handlebars and rolled the sled. I rode it with ethanol wires plugged in as well as unplugged and it made no difference. Hope it clears up on the second tank Like my dealer says it will.

I never held it WOT for more than 2 seconds (if that) and it turned a peak of 8250 but track speed peaked at only 56 MPH. Felt like it was running out of gear. Clutching is stock so I plan on starting by putting in some weights (reccomended by SLP to go with pipe) to see if that helps.

Anyone with clutching experience want to show me how to put in clutch weights?

Ill win, there is a pretty good clutching thread on here..might read thru it..havent had mine out yet(still in peices) so not sure what the 010 update is going to change but i had heard it picked the power up from both the 08 and 09 stuff...mike

Thanks Mike.

I saw that thread earlier and figured you had a good handle on your setup. I just wanted to see how it ran stock and then figured I'd start with the setup SLP reccommends in the paperwork that came with the pipe and see where it's at. I figured after that and depending on how it was working I'd try making changes one at a time using your setup as a guide to see what works.

My biggest problem is I have zero experience with modifying sled clutches. I'm a decent wrench but have never torn into a sled clutch so I'm at a loss for exactly how to even start. I'm used to doing all my own work and would rather learn how to do it than pay someone to do it for me. Any chance I could get a little tutoring from you?

sure thing Matt, but I have to tell you I am no clutching guru..I just got lucky on making mine run the way I wanted...its pretty basic..I started out with carls cycles clutching ..wasnt totally happy with it..so i bought all of slps's stuff..still wasnt totally happy so I crossed em up and then adjusted here and there..basically you get everything dialed in(alignment , center to center , belt clearence and then figure out what it is and isnt doing..then figure out what change gets you what you want....first thing to do..wash them clutches and belts with good hot soapy water(when the wifey isnt looking..slip your belts in the dishwasher and wash em twice(just like doing dishes)that will get rid of the mold release and make the belts work better and last longer...

Had my 2010 163 out today for the first time. Put about 35 miles on it. Sled ran great no runability issues at all. The only thing that troubles me is that this sled has the exact same setup as my 08 and 09 had, slp single, intake, carls clutching, and I am short on R's and track speed. Went from a consistent 8200 rpm and mid to high 40 mph track speed to a max climbing rpm of 78-7900 and mid 30 mph track speed. Anyone else see anything like this?

did you check to see if the ethanol wires are plugging in or not..alot of guys forget to check them....

Took mine out today for the first time. 2010 dragon 163. Put about 30 miles on it and it ran pretty good! pulled 8000-8100rpm a few times at about 5500-6000 ft elevation with the break-in oil. A couple times I had a hard time getting it to start while warm, just had to hold the throttle down then she started right up.

I got to finally ride mine ('10 D8 163) over the holiday weekend. So far, I'm feeling good about it. never checked how many miles I've racked up, but I have burned up most of the first tank. Sled ran awsome. Never a stumble, bog or anything. Was strong and smooth the whole way. It always started very easily. After reading some about hard starts and flooding, I was starting to get a little concerned. The snow was deep enough to do a little "careful" playing on some clearcut hills. Max rpm (display recall) was 8150. Sled is still stock as of right now. I have an SLP pipe to put on along with the airhorn kit and some venting. I wanted to get a couple rides on it stock though. Hopefully my boards will arrive this week and I can get those installed. The weather forcast for the next ten or so days doesn't look very promising for new snow. It will take a few more rides to get used to the way this thing handles. I found myself over-correcting while playing around. Very nimble sled compared to my Escape. So far, I'm very pleased with my decision on the sled. Hope it stays that way.

I'm wondering cuz both sleds done same day and by same dealer if they were not honed properly or they didn't go and replace the exhaust spring that are the same color but are different rate springs and ad quite a little to performance?
