Thinking of getting a new 163 Dragon, and wondered how the motor update is working. From my uderstanding is the 2010's have a differant cylinder? Is there any other diff.?
Thank's

No the jugs are the same...the 2010 has a new head design, new fuel/spark mapping, double ring pistons, and a functioning knock sensor. But with that said each and every stock 800 CFI on the planet qualifies for this update. FYI..the update or the 2010 flat out performs. Don't get caught up in HP bs that is being flopped around on internet boards. These sleds just run GREAT! Quite significant performance gain on stock 2010 dealer demo versus stock 09. Wonderful deal for all of us Polaris 800 owners!

I had heard also that the cylinders are different on the 2010's, there was something said about the cylinder wall was longer to help support the piston better. I looked on the parts fiche and the part numbers are different from 09 to 10. I also found it odd that the price for the 09 cyl. is around $630.00 and the 2010 cyl. is around $980.00. I found that on carles cycle online parts fiche.

the 2010 case and cylinders are different..the cylinder has a longer skirt to better support the pistons(porting and such is the same)..which is why the 10 cylinder wont go on the 08 and 09 case..no place for the extra skirt........

All?

"But with that said each and every stock 800 CFI on the planet qualifies for this update".
Does this include 08 D8's? How does one go about convincing the dealer?
:D:D:D

^^^Absolutely it includes the 08 800s, if your dealer is arguing that, he should be put out of business. Make him call Polaris while you are standing there.

Oh and by the way, "because there is NO Way you came from my loins!"

2009 vs 2010 jugs

Please keep in mind the longer skirts on the 2010 jugs require that the upper case half is different to accomodate those.

Sadly, the 2008/2009 update does NOT get the 2010 longer skirt jugs.

Rode mine yesterday. Pulled real strong, no hesitation and was pulling 8100 with a pint of premix. Im really happy with it

I have an 08 and an 09 Had the upgrades in both, by Carl's. The 08 had 2246 miles on it and they never even blinked!! Carl's is top notch when it comes to service for there customers!!!

I rode my09 for 65mi. The elevation at the truck was about 5000' and we were riding around 6000-6900'. I put in the stock 62g weights and stock spring. I have the stock secondary in also. I am running a CE 163" x 2.5 track and am geared down to 18:42.

I left the truck (after letting the sled warm up) and rode a couple of miles then stopped and shut the sled off. Once we were goijng to take off I tried to start the sled and it was completely dead...I pulled the plugs and found them wet. I shut the ignition off and pulled the sled over to clear out the cylinders then reinstalled the plugs. It took 8 more pulls and then it started. (it seemed flooded) Rode it for the rest of the time without a hitch....might have been caused by the extra oil???

The sled pulled 8100rpm max all day and that was near the truck. At elevation(both hillclimbing and trail riding) the max I could hit was 7900. The engine felt slugging and a little fat in the bottom to mid rpms. I am not impressed compared to the last engine I had in the sled. I met up with an 09 assult with the updates completed the same day and he said his had less power as he has not changed any clutching between the updates.

I had my wifes 08 600 swb 144 x 2" sled running 60gr weights that same place the same day and it could pull 8000rpms.

I should have bought a cat...this thing bites ( too bad it is so comfortable to ride)

Re-clutch it. Mine runs better than when new. I'm just worried it will go down agian. The 09 update was a turd compared to this! Good luck.
