So we have been a little slow at our cabinet shop. Since the city has been on us to finish our landscape we decide to finally get it done. I have a kid that just graduated with honors from the local university in mechanical engineering start putting the sprinkler system in. Real simple system just one valve one line watering 10 trees that each had bubbler heads. I show him where the sprinkler box is with the line coming into it. He says "no problem I havent done sprinklers before but it should be that tough." He spends 2 days doing the 3 hour job and finally gets done. I turn the valve on and no water anywhere.
Long story short it has been a month now. Replaced valves etc,etc etc. I was ready to dig the asphalt up and run a new line. Today I finally figure out the the real smart kid glued onto the pipe coming up into the sprinkler box without cutting the cap off the end!! The pipe coming into to box was 1.5" and he took a 2" coupler and glued onto the capped pipe and away he went. It didn't even fit tight I pulled it off with my hands even after he put all the glue he could to try to get it to hold. It never would have but it didn't matter because the cap was still on!! I couldn't even see the cap because it was foot under ground at the box and nearly completly inside the 2" coupler. It never even entered my mind that the problem could have been there. Next time I will be more clear. Cut the cap off then run the line.
I should have just done it myself. Would have saved time in the long run. The question is should I tell the genius about his real smart move? Probably wont but I was so mad when I figured it out that all I could do was laugh for an hour.
