ANYONE HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE REV.

Check the play on your secondary. If it's not shimmed properly with washers on the back it might allow it to open up too much and suck the belt in when in reverse. Page 6-22 of the deep snow manual.
Yes check the play in the secondary there is about 1/8 inch play and yes the belt stays up about 1/8 inch on the top on the secondary when I stop.I check the off set too it right on.

I would take the belt off, and see if the movable sheave on the secondary can move in and out of the ER cuts without resistance or excess friction. Then I would disassemble the secondary for inspection again. I can't recall you saying if the secondary spring was fresh or not. In theory a weak spring could allow the clutch to open before the rollers can slide into the ER cuts, plus it's possible (however unlikely) that your spring has broken since you had it apart.
The problem has to be in your secondary.... so let me ask you this:
Did the problem start after you last had the secondary apart?

Its been doing it for a long time, I'm just getting tired of it doing that, and trying to figure out why. I sure do appreciate you all trying to help me out. I get tired of picking the sled up to get the belt unstuck.I try not to go in reverse unless I have to. the spring has been in there for three yrs now.maybe its time for a new one? but its did it every since that spring as been in there from new,I dont remember what the rate was on this one I just remember it was black/red I ride in low elevation.0-3000 ft. I will take it apart again this weekend. I dont have any other spring to try in there right now. any suggestion's on what spring I should try? or just get a new one that's the same.thanks all

I'm not fully convinced it is your spring, but I'm thinking it has to be a specific problem within the secondary. At this point it should probably come apart so you can double check the condition of everything, spring, rollers...

There is a thrust washer between the sheaves, (#9 in the diagram below) I don't think it is a known weak spot, but if there's a problem here, there would be extra friction between the sheaves when fully closed. This wouldn't likely affect any other part of the clutch's performance, but the friction could be enough to stop the helix from rolling into ER and allowing the sheaves to open in reverse.

THANKS, I WILL CHECK IT OUT THIS WEEKEND,TAKE IT APART AND LOOK AT EVERYTHING. AND MAKE SURE THAT THAT #9 IS IN GOOD SHAPE TOO I NEVER TOOK IT APART THAT FAR BEFORE JUST ENOUGHT TO CHANGE THE HELIX AND SPRING.

Looked at the clutch real quick and noticed the nut on the outside where you adjust the belt is in the wrong hole would this do it?

someone correct me if i am wrong..the holes are the same thing...one just holds the set screw for the deflection and the other if for the belt removal tool..but is does not matter what you use for either one...

i had a similar issue with my 900 grabbing the clutch...refer to thread "clutching binding real bad" i think it was called...anyways...it would do what your describing but it would happen on the trail..flat...so long story short...i had the red/pink spring in it, but i think it was sacked out...so this year i used a new black/white spring and its been perfect...every once in a while if i am facing up hill and get stuck..i will creep it slowly back but only once or twice do i remember the secondary binding the belt...but it was never as bad as it was before...i used to have to spread the sheaves to get the belt un stuck..

but i am willing to bet everyones 900 will bind if there is alot of powder, or if its stuck...try sticking a heavier sec. spring in there and try that...

Here it is.

Just for the record.... mine has never done this, reverse has worked perfectly every time I used it.

mmmmmmm hmmmm, put it on the list of things that have not failed on my sled Sean lol.

I still think it's a friction issue between the sheaves. I wonder if a delrin washer could be placed behind the thrust washer?

Sean, you are correct about the 2 holes in the secondary and their alignment/positioning on the inner washer between the sheaves.

That washer in the pic above; #9 I've seen get tattered up pretty bad. It will get bent sometimes during belt removal from the thread tool or the deflection adjustment stud. I've replaced a few. When i first bought my sled, it was not disengaging in reverse on the trailer. Before I ever rode the sled, I found alot of worn out stuff in the secondary.

Also, the bushing in the inner sheave (left in the pic) I found on mine to be extremely worn. This could allow the sheave to kock and not allow the helix to engage the rollers and stick. The spring could have difficulty releasing if this were the case.

I think it's time for an overhaul of this secondary. New spring, new sheave bushing, possibly new rollers, and a new washer in between the sheaves. Some delrins...Should be good to go.
