I really want to get a side business going and have been tossing around this idea for a couple years. Just did a vacation to Hawaii and stayed in one, and absolutely LOVED it, so this has my wheels turning. I am not particularly concerned with the marketing or customer base side of things....I've got some great "ins" and unique ideas there I'm quite confident in. (Sledding market being one of them). Location is 100%. I'm not looking to get rich either....just cover the mortgage, taxes, etc, and hopefully a bit extra in my jeans.
Just curious if anyone has done this before and any challenges you ran across,
- Zoning (this would be residential zoning)
- Permits
- Insurance
- Neighborhood
- Did you rent a portion (suite) of your home, or an entire home?
- How are the tenants in general? Any comparisons with longer-term tenants? So far the couple people I've talked with have said they've actually seen LESS wear and tear with the shorter term rentals....which was both surprising and encouraging..
- If you have done, or are doing this....would you do it again?
