Anyone getting snow in there Clutch?

Hey Everyone, I'm a new 09 M8 owner and on my first powder ride I experienced a fair amount of snow getting into my clutch.(see attached)
I installed 2 cool vents, and have verified the pre-filter material is on the clutch side. It appears that most of the snow is dropping down through the vent directly above the secondary (the vents directly under the windshield). I spend a fair amount of time downhill carving with the sled laid over so it tends to make sense this snow could get in, but it seems like a lot more snow is getting in than it should be.

The other issue I have is the 2 cool vent holes in my side panel are almost all frozen closed. The snow appears to get through the mesh, then freezes to the pre-filter plugging the holes.

Has anyone had issues like this when riding powder?

Im think a pair of Frog Skinz all around would help. It must me coming from the two vents on the left middle side of the hood.

ALL vents, including the two vents in the middle of the hood have frog skins on them already. The only vents that do not have frog skins are the vents directly under the windshield and I don't believe anyone makes a frog skin for these vents.

snow intake

Bandicoot, cat has frog screens to cover over the intake screens as well, part# 5639-334. Although I don't think that is where you are getting the snow from. The amount in the picture almost tells me that the side panel is coming open under snow presure, are you sure that when you close the side pan that it is falling in under 4 tabs and the clip? The only other thing I can think of is that your hood wasn't on the line up tabs, and it was held open on the bottom edge of the hood. Does the hood line up with the belly pan neatly when it is warm? You may have to put on a mini set of dog bone straps and buckets to keep it good and closed.
Hope that helps,
Alan

Wow I've never seen that much snow on the inside of the panel like that. I also have 2cool vents and never an issue in deep pow. I agree that your panel must be popping open.

The only time I have seen snow in by the clutches like that was when some of the screws that hold the belly pan to the bulk head were missing and the snow was coming in from underneath. I'm sure you have already checked that?

Thanks for that P/N, I didnt know these were available. When the machine is warm everything fits and lines up perfect. I'm also certain the panel is held in on all clips. This happened twice on the same day and I made sure the clips were holding properly. I may have to add additional straps as you've noted. Hopefully I can get the frog skins on for my next ride to eliminate the vents from the equation.

Darren - Glad Alan got to talk to you about this issue. In looking at your pictures, it almost looks like either your hood is letting the snow get in or the side panel isn't seated in the trough and letting snow in. It's not common at all to get ANY snow in our vents - that is what the prefilter is designed for. Yes, it will freeze BETWEEN the materials before it will let the snow in, which is what it was designed to do. In the pics though, you show it frozen on the inside, and there simply isn't any way for that snow to get there. ??? Weird.

If there is anything we can do though to help you resolve this issue, or if you'd like to try something different, we are more than happy to try whatever we can to help you out.

Keep us in the loop on what is happening with your sled so we know it's working right.

Thanks-

:) Tammy

I'd be looking pretty hard at that left footwell. Mine was pulling quite a bit through there and the secondary was slipping. Blocked off that area and vented elsewhere.

Though it was not near as much snow as you are getting on yours.

Ripsass - There is definitly snow getting in through the left footwell, and forming ice under the secondary. But, the majority of it is not coming in this way as you've noted. I will block off the footwell to see how much this helps. How did you block off this area effectively?
