anyone ever do this?

i never mess with others, BUT one of my buddies at school had sledded without one for a few years... I refused to ride with him until he got one. he FINALLY got one. i go out all the time and play search and find with them in fields and stuff.

we dont play in the safest game, so being avy safe is #1.

i wore my beacon on october 13th riding 2 feet around in a gentle meadow... rode with it till may 31st in the dirt.

Ive tried it we always get them out at the beginning of the ride I'm new to the group i ride with and only one of them has a beacon and before i started sledding no one in the group had one so we have a deal he saves me i save him. then last year for xmas he bought his daughter and wife one so slowly were getting more prepared.

I know what days I really need mine and what days I don't but I always have it regardless.

I know for a fact I don't want to be one of the Dumb A$$es standing at the bottom of a slide where a guy has been buried with my finger up my butt wishing I had it with me.:(

I am not a weathly man by any standards, but I'm going to be riding in the mts the rest of my life and am seriously considering purchasing extra beacons. Yea, proper training should be administered, but it's still better to have one without any training rather than no beacon at all. Beacons give rescuers at least a chance to find victims.

I'm convinced, an avalanche kit as much required equipment in the mountains as a good pair of boots.

I've done the same @ Vail Pass when getting suited up. MAYBE half that pass on their way out are transmitting.

It is good to do this and see how many others have them on. I check the group I ride with before we head out. When I get dressed at home, my beacon is turned on then. Granted we don't have a long drive to go ride, so it's part of my routine. No worries about forgetting to turn it on that way. It stays on all day, until we are out and offloading sleds (or when my sledding gear comes off).

My hubby used to turn his off if we'd go to the warming hut for lunch, but I changed that. :face-icon-small-sho He had forgot twice to turn it back on. Batteries are cheap.....I'd rather go through those than a bad scenario!
