i had a catastrophic dislocation to the left knee march 31 2008. took out acl, lcl, mcl, pcl, both meniscus, and deformed the tibial plateau. all from riding a supermoto bike at the indoor motocross park and misjudging a triple.
had surgery on april 18 2008, no weight bearing for 2 weeks for the meniscus repairs. started phys therepy 2 weeks after surgery. did therepy for 8 weeks, then the surgeon turned me loose for my own rehab.
did the stationary bike, recumbant bike, eliptical, treadmill (backwards, try it it works).
was on the supermoto bikes no dirt sections by week 6 (too early). waited 2 more weeks, got out of therepy, and got back on the bike dirt and all, started running (against doctors orders), yeah it hurt. raced first supermoto race at 12 weeks finish
2nd in prelim, 7th in main.
kept rehabbing myself all summer and fall, had a great prexmas ride in togwotee, and montana (thanks mtdream), only issue i had was slight soreness at the end of the day, and altitude sickness
you gotta want to come back. you need a aggressive doctor/surgeon with an open mind. same with therepy or do your own if you are motivated.
you dont have to sit out any riding, if you dont want to. goto
www.thumpertalk.com look up doctor mark sanders in the health and fitness section. he has lots of good ideas and answers all questions. he is aggressive with surgery and therepy. most pro riders will be riding in 9-12 weeks.
food for thought.... we are at the end of the first week of october, 12 weeks is jan 1st. early season riding isnt the best anyway. get your surgery, get on your rehab. and set a goal to ride by a date of your choice mid to end of jan shouldnt be unobtainable in my mind.
good luck to you keep us updated. YOU CAN DOO IT!!!
