Anyone changed 02 carbs to newer?

Ok, I'm tired of the '02 carbs and trying to get the thing to run right.

Has anyone ever switched the '02 carbs out for say '04 carbs? If so, tell me your experience. Keep the DPM or eliminate? What jetting did you end up with and what altitude did you ride at?

Thanks,

back in the day I used 04 carbs on my 01. Carbs will help but some of the issue MPEM timing curve. the 02s are horrible. If you change carbs I would get the MPEM updated to 03 or 04 summit timing curve.

I didn't think that the carbs have ever changed much so I wouldn't think that would do much good? I had an 02 and everyone said to remove the DPM and it would scream. I would update the MPEM and remove the DPM before spending money on new carbs. I was going to remove the DPM but I bought mine used and only rode it for a season and traded it for an 04 Rev. Just my 2cents!

01 and 02 had the hoodless needle jets and the 02s have a fixed needle, no adjustment anywhere.

On my 02 I installed a hooded needle jet kit from CPI , it comes with adjustable needles :) Helped a bunch with a very bad hiccup - bog going from idle to wfo. The recurve on the mpem helps too. Dino

CPI and the other companies don't make that kit anymore... I've talked to them all. They were the ones that suggested finding a set of '03 or newer carbs.
