Anyone Calving out their herd before the riding begins?!

(The wife doesn't like to refer to her impending due date as "the date she gets pulled".

LOL )

Scott,

They seem to get kinda sensitive about that sort of thing!! Especially if theyre a first timer!!...

Or the 3rd time. LOL It wasn't funniest thing I've ever said then either.
But I did make her a cool shirt for that one:

We start our heifers about the 1st of march... then the rest of the cows about 25 days later.. lets us pay more attention to the heifers for the first month or so and then they are pretty much done before the farmin starts.
So i guess about one more month for me and i get to wrap it up for the year.

Scott,

That is a great T-shirt! lol

We started calving on the 23rd of December, so almost a month into it with little sleep, but we are rounding the corner!

Have had Galloway cattle for 11 yrs now. Some folks cuss em but i have yet to have to pull one!! Great mothers as well so it makes my job quite easy.
Just need to sell a couple yearlin bulls and im happy!!

120 mixed herd. Heifers start march 15, the cows apr 1. Trying to get all the riding in we can. Good luck to all with the calving season.:beer;

We start in early March on 50 head heifers then 300 cows in April and May mostly straight Herefords. Sometimes the wife gives me a weekend end of March between the groups when things are slow:D God I love that women!

We calve 180 head in the early fall and another 85 starting in early Feb. Usually don't have too many problems with the smaller group in feb. I have somebody who can check them on the in Feb and early March when I decide to ride.

I'm surprised at how many cattlemen are on here. Sold all my cows years ago and somehow don't miss the calving. The wife replaced them with a wack of horses. Can't win, but it does make for more quality sledding time.

The wife doesn't like to refer to her impending due date as "the date she gets pulled".

LOL

You miss the snip date again?

I try and calf one every day. And if I'm riding I generally work a bit harder to make sure I have calfed before we leave.

ArticDoo,

We have a whack of horses around here as well......gonna make us rich some day!!!..not.....I think horses have made more billionaires into millionaires than any other animal!!.....but our horses are special because they are barrel horses:rolleyes:
