Just curious if there are any other ranchers on here dropping calves on the ground before you can get out and ride? We are in the middle of it now..another 3 weeks and its sled time!:)

I moved my calving to april 20th. It is nice by then and I don't have to worry about frozen calves. Best thing I ever did.

Were suckers for punishment! We love staying up all night in January to save freezeing calves!! Actually this year has been really good. One calf born in -33 that froze his ears , but most have been born in -2 to -7 weather, and most of them at noon!:)

We had one from a heifer the other night (not setpose to happen bull must have jumped the fence again and got in early) didn't make it was -44 without the wind chill. Had no clue she was that early. We found the calf and it was still alive but we where to late. Sucks A** prob one off the best looking calf i have ever seen out of a heifer.

Still have another month till the Heifers start then, around the 1st of March let the madness begin on the big bunch. So I get to enjoy the fluffy stuff, and pass on the spring snow!!!! Less babies in the barn, and a little more sunshine!!!!

We will start around Mid Feb. we luckly have some good help so we still get to ride, just not be gone over night as much.

Dont start until the middle of March. Have to get all the riding in before then.;) It kinda sucks but its the best lifestyle you can have. :D

cosin of mine starts about the mid of feb.... we usually have bets on what day the first one comes poppin out..... but we stay up late, drink some beer then go check cows, freeze our azzes off for a couple of hours rodeo'n with the lil' guys then get a couple hours rest then feed and check in the morning then ride all day and come back and do it all over again............. fun for a while but tiring..........

The wife doesn't like to refer to her impending due date as "the date she gets pulled".

LOL

Scott,

They seem to get kinda sensitive about that sort of thing!! Especially if theyre a first timer!!...

We run 100 head of Registered Black Angus & Black Baldie Commercial cows. Not a whole bunch but enough to keep us busy for a few weeks in Jan-Feb. Get in a whole lot of internet surfing on night shift in between checks!!

we run a couple hundred head of red angus and black angus commercial cows. We started calving about a week ago. all's good so far!

april 20th

we start on the 20th of april. pushed it back so we would have less feed cost and more time to play in the winter. i shouldnt be feeding cows or heifers for atleast another month probably two. we run black angus with a few baldies. we also contract large numbers of yearlings during the growing season.
