Anybody going down to a 15" track?

Funny because the 16" track is one of the big draws to Doo for me.....I guess everyone's got their view.

15 vs 16

I have a brand new '09 163 take off for sale if any one is interested. Avid Products.

Sometime in the next 78 years, when it snows again:D, I will switch the stock 154x16x2.25 out for the Camo Extreme 156x15x2.5. I promise to take notes, and compare them within one day's time to keep the test accurate. I heard that the Holz's XP's were on 155 Polaris tracks. I also know that Donovan at Xtreme is going to put a 15 on his Doo for weight loss purposes. 16"/15"?? Who knows! I will:D

Same here. Hate to admit it, but I'd consider a Cat if you could get a 16 wide in there. Love the extra flotation for boondocking, for hill climbing, I don't think it makes much of a diffence. I'm running a 162 x 16 on my Rev.

The extra inch in width gets you 60 square inches on the snow. A 15 wide track 8" longer gives you the same footprint.

It's more than that.....a 16x154 equals out to be, roughly, a 15x164. I still think that if was really a "night and day" difference, the other manufactures would have a 16" wide under their sleds. Of course the Apex has a 16", and it's still not enough:face-icon-small-hap

After my maiden voyage yesterday, I might need to put a 16x156 under this thing. She's a RIPPER!!! I'm sure the 2.5 paddles will indeed help, but the motor has plenty of beans to pull anytrack. 15" wide or 16". Let the games begin:face-icon-small-ton

I've been running the 156x16x2.5 Camo extreme on my ZX chassis since they came out with it.The traction and flotation is second to none, track was a hog at 62#, ported 5 1-1/8" holes across the track and dropped 2#8oz.
Track clearance is tight, but there's no snow build up either.
Track speed isn't anything to brag about, but I can boondock anywhere.:beer;:D Was thinking 162, but ahh why fix something that isn't broke.

Good info! I weighed my 156x15x2.5 at Felkers with a digital scale. It was 53 lbs. The previous owner removed every other clip. My stock 16x154x2.25 was 51 lbs. on the same scale. That was one of the main reasons I want to try the 15 wide; weight, or lackthereof!

First ride on the 15" will be next Wed/Thurs. I had the stock track, 154, out last Thurs against my unlces 163" in bottomless fluff; 4 feet of it! The two sleds were almost even in a climb. Mine went 20' higher(SHR860R:)). These were short pulls, maybe 6-7 seconds. The 163's climb very well indeed. We'll see if less IS more next week:confused: Stay tuned you keyboard Jockey's:D

16 inch

I am running the camo extreme 156x16x2.5 3.0 pitch on my 08 XP. I am able to sidehill, carve and boondock with ease and I am 5'6 and 145 lbs. I am running Smittys800 drop down brackets, rear wheel delete, heavy duty rear springs and no sway bar. The main thing that I have noticed is that I don't get stuck nearly as I did with the 151x2.0 REV or the 154x2.25. the track was a direct bolt on going from the 154. Engine is stock 800, stock exhaust, primary running 412 ramps, 160/320 spring, clicker 4, 20:45 gears, Shockwave at 4 turns out. 42 mph track speed at 8100 rpm in bottomless snow. Sucker climbs like a mountain goat. I am very pleased with the 156x16x2.5 and won't even consider a different track.

I'm going from a 151x16x2 to a 155x16x2.5. When I hear about people swaping out their 2.3" for the 2.5" and saying big difference I think I'll be grining for a week my 1st ride out.

Sounds like to me the main reason you went with a 15 wide was you got a good deal on it?
If that's the case you don't need to justify to anyone why you did it.

Let us know how your 1st ride on the extreme goes.

Nice report Mark! I went with the 15" just to see. 80% of the time you don't need more track, so keeping a 16" under there is not always beneficial. The other reason for the 15 is that it's about 4 lbs. lighter than the 16 Extreme and only 2 heavier than the stock 154. I still think the XP will 'surf' alot better with a 15 than a 16. RMK's are super well balanced and M series sidehill very well;both 15's. I still think that if the 15 didn't affect handling, both Poo and AC would have them by now. JMO:face-icon-small-win Plus I paid $400 for it! Not bad for a track with two rides on it:beer;
