Anybody Going back from Nytro to Apex?

iamvector

I've spent quite a bit of time on the Nytro and quite a bit of time on my turbo sled and with the Vector you have there if it were me I'm not sure I'd bother making the switch. I don't think the Nytro will be any lighter than your Vector, thats a pretty nice sled you've got there might just want to ride it another season.

I think the ticket with the NYtro is when its stuck its still a 2 pearson sled but the rider position is the key for me I love the sled, Timber sled skid and a 12 lb of boost and the rest will be stock untill i get sledsick over summer and start pissing money away again:D

He's got the new sled bug!!lol I don't blame him. if the vector is similar to the rx-1 for riding(he does have quite a bit of aftermarket light weight goodies which makes it a night and day difference), he'll notice quite a difference in ride style between the vector and nytro. His vector will hang with anything out there, just every couple years we all have to get the newest goods out there.

I hear ya. I think from what he was saying he's got that Vector in the 500 lb range and rider forward etc I'm betting it rides pretty well. I'm goin to hold out for the 2010's before I decide what my next big mod job will be. It may well end being my Nytro or then again who knows maybe the new mac daddy Apex replacement will be too much to resist. Here's hoping.

yes there is always that hint of new sled that bites at me but its all about the rider position iam a aggressive rider & find my vec a pain when transitioning from siting to standing it rides incredible has all the power i can ask for & i will only sell it if it works out for me or i will keep it not going to give it away like quite a few guys have done with there turbo sleds lately.i have been looking for a crashed or used nytro that i can build from if the right deal comes along.the one thing i really like about the nytro is throttle response is incredible i cant touch them off the line.:beer;:beer;

I've got a Vector and a Nytro and each has its strengths and weaknesses. I like the Nytro for agressive riding but my Vector is better for long distance trip/glacier rides because you can stretch your legs out to the front or back and it has better wind protection. Plus it gets way better mileage and comes stock with a 10.5 gallon tank. I also think the Vector goes through the deep snow better (tunnel doesn't drag as much) and I like how the heat exchangers keep the running boards clear of snow and ice. Oh, I should add I've got a Boss hi-rise seat on the Vector along with a rider forward steering post. Makes a big difference.

I am going back to the Apex. I gave the Nytro a good honest try but I think it handles to much like a Rev.

I think the turbo builders jumped off the Apex platform, took all the knowledge and experienced we learned from the Apex and built some very good running turbo kits for the Nytro. If I was in the business of building turbo kits I would have done just the opposite and would have continued to R&D the Apex. I think the Nyto kits are getting all the HP out of the motors we can reliably get. (I saw 4 motors put pistons through the block) I think the Apex has 30% more to give then we have ever gotten out of it, and if any of the builders would set the Nytro and 2 strokes aside and focus on the Apex for another season, we would not have to ask the question which one is "king of the hill."

I still think the Apex handles better and is still going to deliver even higher reliable HP numbers then we have ever seen. The question is who going to find it first??? If you can tap into the undiscovered HP in this motor, and leave the Nytro wanting, then Yamaha happens to build a new platform around the Apex motor in 09 or 2010??????

Totally agree. You bring up some very good points. If the Nytro wasn't here it would be interesting to see where the Apex would be at this point...

You guys have got it nailed. I believe the Apex is a more suitable ride for bigger guys. The nytro is better for the smaller. Riding my buddies Nytro felt like riding the old Rev's. Super easy to manipulate your riding style compared to the Apex. Apex better for the long hauls(miles). Just a little concerned about the tunnel holding up on the Nytros. Seems Yamaha should have a little more reinforcement built into them:-)

I'm 5' 8" and weight 168 pds. I would rather ride the Apex any day. I totally agree with Never-Work. I think the Nytro feels like a rider forward nose diving sled.

Interesting to note that the Rev has been out for how many years, and now the XP, and neither Artic Cat nor Polaris have made any real attempt to move away from the stable, non rider forward design. I think Ski Doo has taken it to far and lost the balance of a good sled. I think the Nytro may have done the same thing.

I think Yamaha will take a look at the Apex and the Nytro find a happy medium, and build a new Apex. In that aspect Never -Work may be right, because I also think the Apex motor has untapped dependable HP lurking in it. Now we have experience from the Nytro that can be taken back to the Apex. If I was a turbo builder I would take this experience and put my money into Apex motor development. With an updated platform that drops 70 pds, and better turbo kits this sled will be dreamed about by many. IMO.

There are some rx-1's and Apex's out east and abroad that have dynoed 400-500 hp...Mcxpress 400 kit, there is a guy who dynoed 377 at 20psi. Only 104 octane fuel, 10:1 pistons, stock rods.

If i had a choice id go with the Nytro and 162 it. The apex is a really good hill climber but i dont think its makes a great boondocker. VS the Nytro.

I think yammi went a step in the right direction when they made this sled.

Ride whats suits you and have some fun.

nate and titanium! YEAH!!

welcome to the dark side buddy!!!!!!

hehehehehehe :D:devil:

so you got it did you nice you will love it.:beer;:beer;:beer;

Yah, gotta pay for the last of it and go pick it up. Your probably going to have to pm me your number, cause ive got questions, lots of them :D

As for Nytro vs Apex.......Good points. I figured ALOT more people would be going back to the Apex. I thought the Nytro was developed to get sad broken skidoo riders on something familiar and reliable. Its working, slowly :) just gotta go buy me a Yamaha sweatshirt now :p

nate, what sled did you get? Titanium Vector?

I'm not going 'back' but actually might get a RX-1 just for fun...Throw a blower,some lightweight, rider forward, and you got a decent hillrunner..

one point that concerns me is how the nytro handles with a track that is longer and wider than it was designed for.
if I got a Tnytro I would definitely put a 162*16 or a 174*16 track to get the flotation I need in the deep(I'm 230lb). my Tapex handles great with 310 hp on the stock footprint, but what would happen with a machine that was designed for a 153*15 track. weight distribution could be off as well as other elements of the design.
the result might be similar to extending the rear tire out on a street bike. better for drags, but worse for corners. all speculations!!!
although, after putting 3000k on stage2 mcx this season, I can tell you that I wouldn't trade it for anything:D:D:D

Think of sleds as a tetertotter. They come from the factory semi balanced now a days. The apex, doesnt feel heavy in the powder because its balanced, when you start changing things you change the balance.

Put a fat kid on one end of the tetertotter and a skinny kid on the other :rolleyes: doesnt work out. But suspension setup compensates for alot of this. Couldnt tell you how well the Nytro Balances with a 174".
