Anybody been on Rabbit Ears/Buff. Pass

You can get the tags online.

As for the Walden route, I have done it and if the weather is snowy, windy and cold, you will wish you were on I70, where if something bad happened, emergency services could be with you fast. The Walden route, you never know. Guess it depends on how many volunteers are available to respond.

Yea forgot to say, check the weather for shizzle cus that route can suck a$$!! But if its fair do it!
I didn't know you can get tags online do they send them in the mail? I hate driving downtown for them...

You can get tags online but you have to wait for them to come in the mail and with any state department, who knows how long that can take. They also state that a receipt for ordering the permit is not sufficient. The only time it pays to do it online is if you have the time to wait for the decal or you have a previous Colorado resident registration and you just need a renewel but doesn't sound like that is the case. I fought this a couple weekends ago on a last minute decision to ride Wolf Creek and forgot my new sled didn't have a permit.

They do say that but if you show proof of receipt and payment, most USFS cops will let it go. They know that Colorado drops the ball alot.

Very true. They will take down the VIN information and verify at a later date that it was indeed purchased. It would be a jackass that would try to give you crap for having it done online and not received yet.

FWIW, I renew my instate stickers online for sleds and dirt bikes - I've gotten checked several times before the actual stickers have shown up. Only once have I had to produce the actual piece of paper; every other time, I just tell them that I "renewed online and have the piece of paper in my bag," and the FS cop is satisfied.

YMMV, but I _REALLY_ doubt you'll get a ticket if you have the "confirmation of payment" printed off and in your possession.

Worst case I think you'd get is a "prove it" ticket....you get a ticket requiring the payment of a fine OR you send in proof you purchased it (like the copy of the tag once you get it sent to you).

Out of state stickers do not use a VIN. I agree it would be a total prick move if you showed proof of paying it online but I wouldn't put it past them. This summer I bought a car over the weekend, called my insurance agent and left a message to have it added to the policy. I got pulled over for speeding on Monday and the state patrolman had my vehicle towed because I didn't have an insurance card that had that car on it. I was very respectful and explained I had just bought the car, he didn't care. The tickets were all dropped in court but I didn't get my $200 tow refunded or my day in court back. 95% of law enforcement are reasonable, good guys its the 5% with little weiner syndrome that ruin it. I have decided against playing that lottery from now on

Any updates on the snow conditions? A few of us from wisconsin were going to go to the Snowies in Wyo next week but it doesn't look too promising. Would it be worth it to head a bit further south?

Way South, like Wolf Creek. Snow depths pretty weak on RE/Buff, meaning 18" on RE and 34" on Buff. Not near enough to make the drive from WI worth it.

Not nearly enough snow anywhere in the state right now for anything other than a trail ride. Forecasts are not looking promising either

Drove over RE today. Least amount of snow I've seen there in a while for this time of year. Wouldn't be caught dead riding off trail around there for many reasons.
Time for a snow dance...

I would have taken his *** to court, and his supervisor. You are allowed 30 days of immediate insurance coverage after purchasing a vehicle if you have a current policy for THIS exact reason. Some LEO's think we exist for them...they forget that our tax $$ pays their salaries.

Is there enough snow for s trail ride without burning a sled up? Is the trail groomed and marked?
