Any West-siders plan on going to any of these meetings???

Newtrout,

Have you received any feedback from the FS, especially Tim Foss as to if he has a sense of if the wilderness incursions have been reduced this past winter?

Mr. Foss has told me that he thinks wilderness incursions are significantly reduced.

The FS really doesn't have much hard data on wilderness incursions. I know because I just did a FOIA request for all their snowmobile Wilderness incursion data. They have a few spotty reports over the years, most of which are just verbal reports without evidence. I'm not trying to say it never happens, but it is much better than it was; and the FS doesn't have near enough data to make a drastic, permanent decision like this.

What a buddy of mine felt from the Cle elum meeting was that the Incursions weren't really the reason for recommending more wilderness and that it was more strategic (to make the boundaries go along the peaks) to make it easier to patrol? Okay, I guess.

It should be interesting...

And EBB...you are a punk. You are going to get some kind of treatment.

the boundaries in that area already follow the peaks and ridges.
the info your buddy gave to you is incorrect.

To see for yourselves instead of just hearsay....

Please go to the meetings or at least review the maps for yourself on line.

The new boundaries drop down below the ridges cutting off many of your favorite play areas.

please have a look for YOURSELF and then make comments.

thanks

Chris

Thanks to everyone that who attended and to anyone that has been involved throughout the proccess, pretty low key meeting, more information gathering than anything. Now more then ever would be a good time to send in you comments, we have until Sept. 28th, after that it's out of our hands. Strength in numbers, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Thanks to Wendell, Ruffryder, Coyote Girl, Modsledr, Snowryder, Eddy, Jason and anybody else that attended the Seattle meeting that I might have missed. :hail:

I believe they extended the comment period to sept 28. It would be great if everyone would push all your friends to make comments as well...we need the numbers!

It is also important to be as specific as possible, and to explain why the areas of interest are important (more then just places to ride..)

Something I was thinking about today, Gold Creek, Stampede, and Greenwater, I think all have riding areas that were from clear cuts. Many of these locations have tree growth that is getting tall enough to impede the riding areas. The available snowmobile riding areas at these locations are shrinking...

Something to think about when writing your letters...

Yes, true they bought us another thirty days, but for those who procrastinate like me it's better to do this sooner than later. I had typed in Sept. originally but started to second guess what I had heard. Thanks,Yammadog
