I didn't know if the new features that have been 'turned on' would even let me post.
I appreciated the post earlier (I think it was page 3) that outlined in writing that SnoWest would be stand-alone. And now, again by Christopher's own keyboard, he is explaining that it's because the site still shares things with HP that speeds are slower than expected. To me, this seems inconsistent.
Christopher,
I have wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt since this whole brew-haha started. We have exchanged PM's (and I thank you for your prompt replies) over the process as well.
I will share with you that I find it an odd coincidence that there is a state-recorded business document that is dated in Oct '09 and lists you as a "Partner" with what appears to be your signature below it.
The reason I find this interesting, and I'm willing to believe the document is real, is because the state does not have an agenda. They benefit either way, and it was a public records search.
So, if I'm going to continue to try to give you the benefit of the doubt (I want too), can you please explain just how an LLC (B&C Management) with you listed as a partner comes up as the ONLY document when you search for SnoWest on the Idaho.gov site, and with B&C Management as the sole contact for such entity?
To everyone else:
I fall into the 'newbie' category. I joined a few years ago, and my post count is I think... about 250. And yes, many of those are simple quips, and do not contain any useful information. I have asked plenty of questions, and gotten a few answers. Were the answers worth the yearly fee? Yes. (And I for one, choose to use the 1-year rate because as I stated earlier, we have to think in terms of the newest member finding a value in paying to subscribe) But, on the other hand, (and this may be over-confidence) I feel I have contributed, and answered others' questions as well. Have I contributed as much as others; such as AKsnowrider, Mountainhorse, Winterbrew, Ron, and many others? No, not nearly as much as them, but, nonetheless, I have contributed to making this a better place, by adding information, not just (bad) comic relief.
By paying a fee to join, do we become owners? Or, are we just paying a fee to a small group or an individual in order to use their stuff (access their servers) ? What if I want my stuff (information) back? What if, since you are not compensating me for my contributions (or others for theirs respectively) we decide we want the information we posted to be removed? When we joined the forum, I'm sure there was a part of that agreement we agreed to, that said that the content became property of HP, or SW. The problem, is HP/SW/B&C changed the rules, by going to a pay site. Now, have they gone to a pay-only platform? No, and perhaps that's their way around that one. I'm not a lawyer. It just seems wrong to me.
I don't like to vote for more taxes, when the people administering the funds don't behave responsibly with the money they already get. To me, it's the same here. I don't like how we were treated/handled as members by the powers-that-be, so why should I voluntarily give them money? Maybe they didn't have an agenda. Maybe they are just absolutely horrid at communication. I'm not sure, but from what I have read here, and at other places, the answers coming from the SW admin don't seem to add up. And, as I said before, I WANT to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Other sites have grown as a result of this. I too, have joined at least 2 other sites since this began. I joined BCR and S&M. Neither seem to have the same traffic volume or membership base as here. Also, they are newer (I think), so they don't have all the information archived. Life is expensive, and perhaps this just became another expense. I sure want to be able to ask questions, perhaps answer a few when I can, and learn. But, I'm sad about how this has transpired.
Best wishes, and I'm not gone yet. (unless I get booted)
