in the market for a 250 4s. is there any bike to stay away from? or are they just like sleds where they are about equal?

Your going to get a lot of brand biased replys. If I were to buy a new 250f tomorrow it'd be a RMZ.

This is coming from a guy that's rode KTM's for 12 years. Recently bought a RMZ450 and i'm kicking myself for all those years spent on KTM's. Planning on buying a RMZ250 here in the next couple months but looking to find a leftover 11' to save some coin.

My second choice would be a kxf. They are great also.

Yamaha 250f's are tired and true, very reliable but aren't a power house in the 250f class.

Honda's are solid also but then you'd have to ride a honda...

Huskys are junk.

Are you riding moto or woods?

Can't go wrong with a Hodaka Wombat, Combat Wombat or a Road Toad!

Is that showing my age or what?!:face-icon-small-coo

I bleed blue, so I am biased.

Anyhow, I just sold my 04 YZ250F about 6 months ago. Bought it brand new from the dealer and I really can't say anything bad about it. I raced MX (C class) on it for 3 or 4 years, rode trails off and on, and never had any major issues. I always rode with a clean air filer, and changed the oil every couple of rides. It never needed rebuilt, the valves didn't need adjusted (checked every few rides), and it was just rock solid reliable.

I completely agree it wasn't a powerhouse, but it took a pretty good beating while I owned it and never left me stranded anywhere. While I owned it I went through three or four sets of tires, one clutch, a few sets of bars, two sets of plastics, three sets of chain/sprockets, three sets of fork seals....you get the idea. Everything I replaced was a wear item.

Yamaha uses 5 valves rather than 4, so they typically last a little longer before needing a rebuild. All the 250F's are made for 14 year olds...so the suspension will need some work unless you are a feather weight. If you aren't on it already, thumpertalk.com has an awesome forum for bikes.

found a very very lightly used 2011 rmz 250 FI.

change oil every 5 hrs period and a clean air filter seems the key to longevity (who would have guessed huh?)

5 years ago you would have told me i would own a 4S sled and a 4S bike i would have laughed in your face.
The rmz is soooo smooth and linear on the powerband its ridiculous...
