Stick with the 87 and sink money into it or pick up a CJ5?

I've wanted a CJ-5 for close to 15 years now, but the 87 has a "special" place in my garage...

for me a 5 is off road only. they are a little spooky on the road I am a 7 guy. the wrangler offers more comforts in stock form and good power to weight and economy.....but the running gear is sub lame.

hey opus you ever jeep with steve haight......I see you are from trout creek.

I have a CJ7 with a small block chevy in it, myself. Passed up a lot of CJ5s that would have been good projects this summer
One guy had dropped off a CJ2A at my shop to sell the transfer and tranny out of. They were full of water and shot

I drove a 2A for about 10 yrs. All stock, but for a Warn over drive. I guess that explains why I ride Tundras, pretty much the same class vehicle...lol! 2A certainly doesnt fit in the comfort relm.

I dont think I know Steve, by name at least.

I hafta ask. Did it have room for a radio in the dash ?

Well, you'd have to cut a hole. :) Never had radio reception, so didnt care. Did have an aluminum Sears & Roebuck hard top, for winter use. Couldnt have heard a radio if you had one.

Just had to ask. Friend had one when we did high school. He cut and drilled, perfect fit when sticking it in the holes from the outside. Found out he had no room to get it under the dash when done...hehehe

Yeah, between the emergency brake handle and the brace holding the dash, there isnt a lot of room.

Indeed.

No matter what happens to my jeeps, they will always have the straight six. Thats one of the top reasons I refuse to purchase one of those new abortions that they call a wrangler.

speaking of which... do any of you know a good place to send an I6 to get it rebuilt? The 87 needs a new engine badly, want to go stroker.
