Last Friday (2/20/09) a group of 5 riders from Omaha spent the night out in the Snowies WSW of Windy Hill. They were all found and safe on Saturday, but does anyone have any information on what happened? Not being nosey, I just thought we might learn something from their experience. Their sleds got stuck in a creek not far from trail K. My riding group helped in the search on Saturday. When we got to them they were all out of the creek and ready to head home. They made an impressive firepit and had a fire to help stay warm. Friday evening when we left it was blowing and snowing so I'm sure they couldn't see very far. What did they do that night that we might learn from????

heard they were down around jeff lake, the snow was too deep to get back up to the trail. glad they got out ok.

Been there done that, glad they made it out ok. Look forward to hearing and learning from there story.

Rule #1, if it's deep don't go down unless you KNOW you have a way out the bottom!

Agreed!

You want to learn from there mistakes this is the cardinal rule.

We were west of warming hut and knew only way out was to double back or drop down on Friday. Most of our group said drop down and Beeman and I were the only ones saying NO and stuck to it. When you cant make a 3% grade going across a meadow WTF are you thinking dropping down drainage??? It was a moronic thing to do but glad they are Ok.

**edit, not to be to harsh on them because the temptation is high but avoid that temptation**
