Any fly fishers here? NEW world record Salmon taken by fly fisher

Well, at the river next to my house, a new world record was broken, fishin Salmon with a fly(?).

26,7 kilo (58.74 lbs) was taken in the famous Alta river, one of the best big-salmon rivers in the world, this week.

Pretty big monster if you ask me...frikken 134 cm (52.75inch) long...

I was a salmon in my former life, and I was quite a bit bigger than that one.

What kind of salmon?

Impressive fish:) Is it a Chinook? Has spots like a brown but more of the looks of a King?

I'm not to sure but the race is Atlantic Salmon. That size salmon isn't too good to eat cooked, but it's good once you smoke it(no, not smoke it like pot)

My record is 12 kilos, or 26,4 lbs, while flyfishing the same river.

The river has it's own club for momber that's caught salmon over 40lbs...Gues they'll have around 10 more members this year.

Some people pay as much as US$50.000 to fish two days there...I'm just lucky enough to live right next to it....But, there's a fishin card drwing you need to compete with around 3000 people for 200 cards or so, so this year I wasn't lucky enough to get a card, so no fishin for me...That's a shame, because it's been the best season for years.

Thanks for the reply. That is a huge Atlantic salmon. 26 pounds is big too. Lucky. If you ever get to Alaska you should fish for the Chinook(King) Salmon on the Kenai River. Caught a 78 lb hen 3 years back. What a rush. You guys definately have it good over there:face-icon-small-win:beer;

Sounds like ALOT of fun over there too. Would be fun to come over and fish some time.

This year has been fantastic for us over here. More big salmon than in the last ten years or so.

Just hope for another good season, because this season is ending this month.

I just hope I get to fish next year too. Want to break my own record, and some day I hope to break my dads too, but he's been fishing for over 50 years, so that might take som time. His biggest is 21.5 kilos. Biggest one I've seen him and his buddy catch was 19....It's a REAL kick when some of this fished get hooked...Took me 45 minutes to get my biggest on dry land...

Kenai is great fishing. Fast water though.

Here is a picture of a King. Been in the river a while this one.

That is a fantastic salmon. I cannot imagine hooking into one of those with a fly rod.

Right on!!!

Some great pics of nice fish taken on here! Skogen-lucky dog, wish I was from Simms:face-icon-small-win TurboTim, nice fish! Love the color of the Kings after they've been back in the freshwater for a bit! Couple weeks ago I was fishing a public pond outside of Laurel, Montana and I swear the little rainbow I caught was no bigger than an inch and a half. Was stripping in a hares ear and didn't even know he was attached until I saw him fly threw the air on my backcast. I just forward casted and back into the pond he went. Sure he had a pretty good head rush after that one:cool:
