Yip, 6 rides on new top end and cylinders. What's up!! Just started to prep for the dismantle. I think I will leave the motor in this time. Sled is up for sale when this thing is running again!!!! Enough is enough. I'm thinking maybe an 09 dragon 155. What do you guys think? Has anybody had any luck parting out their money pit?? Motor has already been to indy dan, for tm3 and top end job. So it still has 2 years left on warranty on crank. So 3 top ends in 80 hours of riding. Not acceptable. If you can't ride these 900's pinned to the bar in pow, there is something wrong!! I might as well be on a doo:face-icon-small-con

You have an air leak! some were or you would not have this problem.:tsk:

Air leak or some kind of Fuel issue. I have rode mine pinned all day long in 6 foot of fresh powder using the stock 05 pistons and crank and never melted the engine. I got it hot enough to melt the plastics. I can look in through the exhaust ports on it right now and still see some of the original hone marks.

What oil were you running? I still believe these engines need the added lubrication of the synthetic oil.

that sucks dude, im selling mine two sick of spending money on it. its a never ending battle.

dont get an 800 dragon, you are just trading problems at that point. 700 dragons are great.

I honestly believe you would be taking a step backwards in reliability to take on an 800 Dragon.... what I read of them scares the bageezes out of me.

As to your problem, you either have an air leak or a fuel delivery problem... No reason you shouldn't be able to keep the motor running with the stock fuel map on these sleds. I have over 100 hours and almost 1300 miles on my rebuilt & updated motor with not a single issue.

Things to check

-leaking crank seals
-leaking base gaskets
-leaking head gaskets
-leaking throttle body boots & reed seals
-plugged injector
-faulty injector connection
-partially plugged fuel filter
-disintegrating fuel lines inside the tank
-plugged or kinked oil line

Once you get it apart, post up some pics of the pistons and cylinders... perhaps someone here can point you in the right direction for a cause.

Good luck, I hope you get it figured out:beer;

If you are not sure if you have the most updated float in your tank you can shine a flashlight in there to check. Should be white plastic looking. The older style were coming apart and blocking the fuel system.

I check my plugs often enough to know if im running that lean, Had an issue last year running lean but because i check my plugs now and again i never melted down. I would love the TM3 crank though, let me know if you sell it!

See the thing is the plugs looked fine when she jammed on me. Which explains what I just found. Pulled the top off, and the pistons are o.k. I mean, definitely looks like they had a few seasons on them, but really only had 20 hours on the new ones. As I turn the primary, it binds up what I thought looking through the intake port from the reeds, the pto skirt on the crank when the piston is down all the way. But in fact, the pto connecting rod, is bottoming out on the bottom casing!!! You can see when you look down the inside with the piston flopped to the back of the motor, the wear it has done on the bottom of the casing, and when you look at the bottom of the connecting rod, there is obvious wear on it. :face-icon-small-dis. so, after one season of riding on a new torque master 3 crank, this happens. I would think that the bearings must be shot. Anyways, need to get to the bottom of it. I'll keep everyone posted. I need to have a full time job just to keep this thing on the snow!!

Sounds to me like you might be getting a new motor under warranty the failure was on the TM3.

I claimed it first if you sell it:face-icon-small-ton

Just Curios what oil did you use? In the past Dan has expressed that he's considered voiding warranties on TM3's and all other bottom ends if Amsoil interceptor or Polaris VES gold was used. I dont know that hes ever actually done it but he's expressed that hes not a fan of either in a few Rants of his over the years.

Also do you run any added oil in your tank? Just like on the skidoo 1000's I was always told you needed to run 100/ 1 in the tank along with the oil injection. It might be overkill for most cases but it never hurts to have added protection.

Man... I feel for ya... especially after all the hard work and expense of top-end parts that you've been through.

IMO... You have some other problems not related to engine hardware if you are getting only 80 hours out of 3 separate rebuilds....Sounds like fuel control or oiling issues.

Indy sticks behind his work.

Did Indy Dan build the whole motor as a short block for you?... You mention the new top end...

The rods will drag on the case when the crank is rotated and cyls/pistons are not installed... Often buggering up the oil injection fitting in the case when this happens.

New fuel filter, new oil filter, new oil pump as per indy dan's recommendations, And fuel injectors sent away for flow testing and cleaning. Can't think of anything else fuel or oil related.... I've been monitoring fuel and oil consumption over the course of a few rides, and I was running about 32-35:1. Also running a shot of oil in fuel for safe keeping. Again, as per recommended. Castrol super snowmobile mineral oil used. As per recommended. Plug readings looked great. :face-icon-small-con

And yes, Dan did do the top end, when he did the tm3. Then I did the second set of top end parts.

wow.. brutal. im on my 2nd grenade in less then 10 miles. sounds like you did everything right... just like me :mad2:

i want to add to this if it hasn't been mentions already. ive read that the throttle boddies can actually cause leaning.

I feel for you, repeat failures can really suck. If you get a chance, could you put some kind of detailed report of what happened each time, what was found, even the beginning failure, etc?? something kind of like Seth did on his clutching thread? The more info we can get, the better chance we might be able to help figure out what is going on.

I was curious about this not long ago myself. I pulled up his posts and saw that her listed it for $3500 bucks. It was really trick too. It said he had no time to ride. His later posts were all about the Pro. Go figure... If I had spent that kinda money, my new hobby would be toy trains.
