Some of you supporters may want to rethink your views, and how "harmless" marijuana really is. You'll end up talking with a high voice like a girl.........as Homer Simpson would say, DOH!

Smoking marijuana can cause testicular cancer

February 09, 2009 14:28 IST

A new study by researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre has revealed that frequent and/or long-term marijuana use may significantly increase a man's risk of developing the most aggressive type of testicular cancer.

Researchers found that being a marijuana smoker at the time of diagnosis was linked to a 70 per cent increased risk of testicular cancer.

The risk was particularly elevated for those who used marijuana at least weekly and/or who had long-term exposure to the substance beginning in adolescence.

The results also suggested that the association with marijuana use might be limited to nonseminoma, a fast-growing testicular malignancy that tends to strike early, between ages 20 and 35, and accounts for about 40 percent of all testicular-cancer cases.

Eek, better lay off the bong.

That is, if you don't want to win 14 olympic gold medals....;)

haha, just kidding, I don't mind pot heads in the least, I hang around quite a few of them, but I don't toke at all. Nice people, very nice people. And, with your post, I know that hanging around with them gives me a better chance with the ladies.

I mean, come on, what woman wants a dude with a tumor on his...you know whats?

Look at all the cancers and problems cigaretts cause but yet we still sell those like its nothing. I would rather see marijuana be legal than cigaretts.

I'm pretty sure

Possible side-effects
As vitamin C enhances iron absorption[89], iron poisoning can become an issue to people with rare iron overload disorders, such as haemochromatosis. A genetic condition that results in inadequate levels of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) can cause sufferers to develop hemolytic anemia after ingesting specific oxidizing substances, such as very large dosages of vitamin C.[90]

There is a longstanding belief among the mainstream medical community that vitamin C causes kidney stones, which is based on little science.[91] Although recent studies have found a relationship[92] a clear relationship between excess ascorbic acid intake and kidney stone formation has not been generally established. [93]

In a study conducted on rats, during the first month of pregnancy, high doses of vitamin C may suppress the production of progesterone from the corpus luteum.[94] Progesterone, necessary for the maintenance of a pregnancy, is produced by the corpus luteum for the first few weeks, until the placenta is developed enough to produce its own source. By blocking this function of the corpus luteum, high doses of vitamin C (1000+ mg) are theorized to induce an early miscarriage.

In a group of spontaneously aborting women at the end of the first trimester, the mean values of vitamin C were significantly higher in the aborting group. However, the authors do state: 'This could not be interpreted as an evidence of causal association.'[95]

However, in a previous study of 79 women with threatened, previous spontaneous, or habitual abortion, Javert and Stander (1943) had 91% success with 33 patients who received vitamin C together with bioflavonoids and vitamin K (only three abortions), whereas all of the 46 patients who did not receive the vitamins aborted. [96]

[edit] Chance of overdose
As discussed previously, vitamin C exhibits remarkably low toxicity. The LD50 (the dose that will kill 50% of a population) in rats is generally accepted to be 11.9 grams per kilogram of body weight when taken orally.[35] The LD50 in humans remains unknown, owing to medical ethics that preclude experiments which would put patients at risk of harm. However, as with all substances tested in this way, the LD50 is taken as a guide to its toxicity in humans and no data to contradict this has been found.

Take the number of deaths from ALL STREET DRUGS. Multiply that by 4. That is the same number of deaths from alcohol each year. Now take that number and multiply it by 10 and that is the number of deaths you get each year from tobacco.

900 people die EVERY SINGLE DAY from tobacco use. That is like three 747's crashing every single day.

Marijuana in the comparison of the grand scheme of things is a VERY harmless drug.

I like weed:)booze makes me puke ! Not a tough decision !

When an arguement that marijuana be legalized or is "not that bad" is posted, the same error is on this web site every time. The error is called a False Analogy. It is when a weak, even far-fetched comparison; using a comparison in which the differences outweigh the similarities, or in which the similarities are irrelevant to the claim the analogy is intended to support. People try to justify illegal drug use by identifying legal drugs that may or may not have as bad or worse effects. The fact that cigarettes and alchol have ill health affects has no relevance to whether marijuana is safe or not or should be legalized. Perhaps alcohol and cigarettes should be banned also?...Which brings about another flaw in logic. It is called Communal Reinforcement. This is the process by which a claim becomes a strong belief through repeated assertion by members of a community. The process is independent of whether the claim has been properly researched or is supported by empirical data. Drug users, including drinkers and smokers often ignore the dangers because society has become "used" to the risks. Another logic flaw is Comfirmation Bias. This is a type of selective thinking whereby one tends to notice and to look for what confirms one's beliefs, and to ignore, not look for, or undervalue the relevance of what contradicts one's beliefs. Should drugs be legal or not? I guess that is a value judgement. From the stand point that my alcoholic ex wife is gone and her drug using teenagers are not longer in my house, I guess the threat of drug use had severely diminished. I really don't expect to be robbed of $20,000 dollars in jewelry, tools, and electronics by teenagers looking for drug money again. On the other hand if I was indeed a parent again, I would like other parents, teachers, clergy, government officials, police join me in a resounding litany that drugs are bad...the legal ones and the illegal...but that is just me and I am not raising any children in my house anymore...
