An actual new 2 Stroke Yamaha Snowmobile Engine (UPDATED)

Not to burst your bubble but reason we left Yamaha was the poor chassis design (Nytro) which was a step backwards. Even the nytro motor in a pro chassis would have been a major upgrade. Still waiting to try a new Viper but from what I can gather it still doesn't handle as well as the pro chassis ....
Yamaha likely has the best R&D and deepest pockets of all the OEM's but seems like sleds are pretty low on priorities.

I think it will be something revolutionary. Things like a rotary engine come to mind or a hybrid 4/2 stroke. The only thing people hate about the 4 stroke is the weight. So figure out how to build a 4 stroke as light or very close. With direct injection could it be possible that no crankcase volume is needed?

Things like, doesn’t burn any oil, doesn’t go bang if it gets lean and accepts boost easily
Sure would be nice.:face-icon-small-hap

Chris. Sorry, I got to call out snowest again. We all know snowest is biased toward Polaris so let's see how long it will take before snowest shows the new 2017 Yamaha sled trailer video in its news feed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not so no need too, if this was a Polaris it would be front cover on snowest news and be there for weeks. I know Yamaha is not liked in the mountain segment so there's not as much interest as the other, but I find it very discrediting to snowest not to show it. Let's see how long it takes for snowest. Last time it took awhile till the YXZ showed up, although it not being a sled, it doesn't take long for them to tell you about the RZR's. We'll see what yamaha has in store 1st of March. Last time Yamaha did a trailer for an upcoming product they released the RZR killer. I'm not saying this will be an axys kill. I predict a snowbike is in store and one that sound and performs worthy enough to buy. Chris the count down has started. Cheers

Mountain sledder Magazine Facebook page had a little Yamaha teaser video for the sled launch march 1. The post said the engine sounds great. there is two spots in the video you can hear a sled and to me it doesn't sound like the deep sound of a 4 stroke and it certainly doesn't sound like a piped tinnie sound of a 2 stroke. To me it doesn't sound like any sled motor i have heard before. Interesting that you said rotary but that doesn't make any sense to me for this type of application.

I own both a Pro and a 16' Viper. The Pro chassis is nowhere near the chassis as the Ac... There is a reason you see everyone needing to "dangle" to keep the Pro in line. There is far less effort needed to do the same with the Ac chassis. But to each there own..

So you just sit on your AC? Do you have to lift your butt occasionally? Do you ever have to stand from time to time?
If you watch AC promo videos it seems like AC thinks its riders need to "dangle" too!

I understand the videos portray the dangle... I thnk people think its cool so they exaggerate it.
The largest difference is just the simple task of initiating and holding an edge. The Pro takes a bit of a jerk, if you will. (I have heard and seen the Axys solved this.) Then while on edge the balance of the sled is in a small window, therefore the sled moves back and forth depending on your balance.. hence the dangle.
On the Ac sled, I can pull the same sidehill with both feet on the running board, same side mind you. It also takes almost no effort to initiate a side hill. Small amount of lean and counter steer and it starts the edge. Probably somewhat similar to the Doo T3 chassis if you have ridden one..
The only issue with the Viper in this chassis, is the weight requires more effort to bring back to center then the two strokes, or the Pro. The pro wants to right itself whereas the Viper will not unless you make it. Both of those are good and bad in different situations...

I think there IS in fact a new 2 stroke engine coming from Yamaha.
What I do NOT know is if it will be in a Yamaha sled or not...

Yamaha is an engine designer/manufacturer. The snowmobile chassis is going to be up to cat. It will cost cat too much money to design and manufacture a 2 stroke to meet/exceed upcoming emissions. Yamaha already has the technology for this. Yamaha will lend a hand in chassis design to cat but I think Yamaha will no longer continue to make any chassis. I also think the cat bike will be Yamaha powered, these 2 companies are in this for a run.................SRXtreme

PS I want an SRX mountain again!!! Mine is getting old. lol

Also, keep in mind that the HDPI 200 HP outboard is about 450 lbs and it is a V6. In the mountain segment I think that is just a tad over target weight....especially when you still have to wrap a chassis around it.

Oh come on. Yamaha just wants to keeps its spot as the heaviest mountain sled on the market.

You did you just don't know it, so what now you're a medical physician. Symptoms include an excessive need for admiration, disregard for others' feelings, an inability to handle any criticism, and a sense of entitlement. Sounds like you have a lack of information to make a diagnosis. Nice try though. I'll give you a better diagnosis its called sarcasm.
