Timbersled kits will still sell even if they did come out with dedicated snow bike.
I'm sure that they will!
Lots of guys out there still would like their machine to be a dualsport/season use machine.
I understand!
However, as some of us know, there is no such thing as a really good dual sport machine.
Take a Dual Sport motorcycle for example (I own one).
They aren't really a good road bike, nor are they a good off-road bike..... they are a compromise at best!
I believe that the Timbersled kits cause this to fall into this category.
As mentioned previously..... the kits leave you with:
- high center of gravity.
- hand operated clutch and a spur gear transmission.
- small fuel capacity.
- no reversing.
- forward existing exhaust system.
- let's not forget all of the hardware necessary to install the kit.
- portions of a motorcycle frame that are not necessary if this was a purpose-built machine.
- if off-road bike conversion, no head lights or taillights.
- no tunnel style heat exchanger system. (I have heard that some of these are over-heating a bit)
- many of the bikes offer electric start only.
My son-in-law encountered a starter motor issue while riding his KTM powered Timbersled.
He was left with no means of kick starting nor pull rope starting.
His engine did eventually start, and later a new starter motor was installed.
