10 M8 153. second ride. 30.9 miles total on the Odo. Out of the crate stock. (clutched for Alaska)

Im still getting the hang of the new (to me) chassis. Ive ridden M sleds a lot before but, never a full day.. or even a half day for that matter.

First ride, Snow was suuuper deep. I absolutely hated the way it handled. Sucked big time on the packed trails and didnt seem to want to turn worth a hoot. I was beginning to want my old ZX 800 back. I did like the throttle response of it though. Half way through the ride, It started to make sense to me how to ride these things.. sadly was running out of gas and went home. Second ride, snow wasnt as good as it was the first ride.. mostly windblown and crusty but we did manage to find some sick pockets with 2-4' of untouched powder. Between all of the sleds I have owned, I have never been able to throw around any of them like I can the M. Sidehills with ease and the power-band is impressive! I have never been able to accomplish some of the things before on the other sleds. BUT, it is probably the worst sled I have ever owned that SUCKS on hard-packed trails...that is the only thing I do not like about it other than I wanted the green, and Im not sure, if Ill keep the floats up front or not..not sure..:) Anyway, thats my opinion about the, M.

~ Happy customer!

You'll need to play with the floats to get a good ride. I'm gonna install the Chris Burandt valving in my skid. I'll let you know how it works.

Do what we do. Stay off the trails!!:)
I know what ya mean. Mine is a bugger to hold on a hard packed trail. (thats all we got right now) Need to do some more tuning on the shocks to get it right.
If we ever get some more snow down here I really want to experince what all you Alaska boys are havin. Deep snow and crappy trails. Sounds like fun!

Next big thing you'll notice is the axial balance. It's something I've never noticed with any other sled. Sled reacts really good to your position on the sled. It will take couple of months to adapt to new sled but I think you'll be very happy :)

I think the front shock is the main issue with the suspension. It's just too short and way too loose to ride hard on trails. I just put WP shock (46mm, with reservoir and clickers) to my 141". It's 2cm longer than stock but gains front travel distance about 4cm. Hoping it will let me spank it harder...

Oh, and get pair of Powder Pros. They are worth the money. Cut the edges like they are cut at timbersled web page at barkbuster front end pics. It's not bad idea to put SnoPro (the racer) -05 to -07 ski springs also. And I'm not talking about the shock springs. There are small springs located where you attach skis to sled. They improve trail manners.

I am sending all the shocks -Zero pros & rear Float from AC Float Conversion- which I haven't even installed yet, on my 07 to Holz Racing. They are all going to be revalved and their spring packs put on. I am hoping that this will make me love the handling aspect of my new to me last spring M 1000. I totally get the I hate this chassis & this sled sucks I want my old sled feeling. But I feel like it is starting to come around and hoping the shock upgrade will make the suspension respond the way I want it to.

Welcome to "the" side AK!! I think you'll fall in love with your M-series far more than any other sled. They rock way beyond the "flick-a-bility" factor. I do agree the shock set up out of the box is horrid.

Definitely get them valved for your weight, riding style and aggressiveness. Gas shock repair in ID, Holz in WA, Tom's in CA or Carver in MN seem to be the big hitters in shock re-valving.

Enjoy.:D

Trail manners can be fixed

My 09 M8 Sno Pro's trail manners are not so bad. GSR re-valve, Fett bro's newest canisters, Powder Pro's with the springs as discussed above. See the pic :beer; My skidoo buddy was shocked at how well my sled rips on the trail.

Thanks guys! I will need to play with my floats and get them to where I like them. Im gonna look into those ski spring things.. might be worth it ! I have SLP PPs on my Mountain Cat... Im gonna put them on my M for a ride and see how I like it. I do like the PPs though on my mtn cat !

:D

a Can is in the horizon..

skiis will make a huge diff. IMO AC needs to get it together on the stockers and come up with something fresh. I went with the Slydog PowderHounds on my M1000 and will never use anything else. Control on trail is great, flotation is amazing, and when I really need to hold a line, they grab and won't let go. It is a chassis that takes about 2-4 rides before you fall in love. I came off an edge and hated the M 1st ride. Second ride it started feeling good, and by the third I never wanted to be on anything else. Enjoy, I'd love to get on one of the new 8's, power to weight sounds sweet.

Give A2D a call about some revalving Andrew.

Glad too hear you like it! Iv heard nothing but good news from allthe 2010 owners, good for Cat. Havent heard of anybody with the 1000, whats up with that!?

Well..........got to take my new 2010 M8 Snopro 162 to the mountains last weekend. With only 2ft. of 5 day old snow it was a trail ridding day..........and without having my scratchers I ordered yet me and my buddy ( he got the 2010 M8 Limited 153 ) we only got to put on about 16 miles before hyfaxes were getting hot as well as the sleds themselves.

Now........I have to say.......having come off of an 05 Rev 159X I have to say this sled has quite the motor!!!!! Even with the tank full of premix and the sled running on the fat side.........wholly cow! Instant throttle response......it spins up quick.........on the couple of short 5-6 second wide open throttle bursts that I did.......well........all I can say is gosh-darn-golly-gee!!!! This sled pulls damn hard......going to be interesting to see how she does once the premix is out of the tank and the sled broke-in and loosened up.

I know...........I know.......16miles.......but it felt great. Scratchers showed up on the doorstep tonight along with my amp secondary adjuster and HPS can. Hope to be heading back to the mountains this coming weekend. I will be sure to report more after getting some more miles on the machine.........it's going to be a good year I believe ;):beer;:):beer;:D

I have a set of the SlyDogs and thought they were decent on my M until I hoped on my buddies M8 with PP's on them and WOW what a difference. My slydogs are TERRIBLE on the trail and seem to just plow through snow in the deep in comparison to the PP. I still need more seat time with the PP though.
