Alpine or Power World for service?

Need some tuning on my '08 M1k. re-gearing, clutching, and some general stuff. Have gone to PowerWorld in past, with decent results, but that's mostly just been season prep stuff. Since this is a bit more tuning than just normal service, you folks recommend Alpine, or is Power World still okay? PW sure is expensive......not sure about Alpine.

It would be worth the trip to see Gary @ Extreme in Steamboat Springs. I don't ride Cat but I have seen what he and his brother and the other guys @ the shop can do to wake them up. Doesn't have all the flash that the other guys in town have = you aren't paying for neon lights and matching shirts. Big supporter of right to ride and local club. Really stands behind his work.

Thanks for the info guys. I've got some DIY stuff I'm doing first (venting, tunnel-dump, etc) so I'll see where it ends up. That stuff I can do, but I hate clutching, so looking for a decent place. thanks again.

Ya, whens the last time Power World worked with any manufactures or race teams developing and testing go fast parts for mod sleds? Never! They are a decent dealer, but most dealerships don't do performance stuff well, IMO.

power world

just for the record, we did get a new helium tank so we ARE qualified to fill up ballons here at power world!!!!

but your are right from the perspective that we as a dealership dont do as much "mod" stuff. we are definetly trying to change that as evident by the fact that most of us working there now are "riders" and in the past we've just had guys that worked on stuff. the only way we're going to learn how to do it though is to get the stuff in there and work on it.

from a dealer perspective, working on modded sleds can be difficult, but if it's what the people want a good shop will progress towards it.

with that all being said, we did just get our first 2012 Proclimb Arctic Cat M800 sleds in this week! come by and sit on it and tell us what you think! No mods required!!!!

You know what, you have a great sense of humor. I appreciate that. I, personally had a handful of terrible experiences there, work/warranty wise. But from last I checked, that guy is long gone so they prolly are getting to be a good shop. Yes, mods are where you make your money. First thing I'd do if I was PowerWorld would be a stock high altitude setup. The shops that offer that get way more sleds sold. A sled that runs great right from the dealer is gold in the eye of the owner. PW has not had that in the past. It would be nice to have a dealer (for Ski-Doo) right here in GC that a guy could trust.

man, you need to come by the shop and shoot the bull with us sometime! we're about two years removed from the last dictatorship/general mannager! there are only a few of us left from that regime!!!

your comment about the "high altitude setup" is interesting. when we build the sleds we have to re-clutch. that means different things for different companys. so we set up all of our sleds out of the box for 9000 and above. any shop that tells you they have a "special" setup is usually full of it. unless its vohk and he's tuning your turbo! thats a never ending tune! we've heard that others, who are located at not 8000 feet have "special" setups with "high altitude grease" etc and are "high altitude" experts and i truly find that hard to beleive. Gene and i build 99% of the sleds that come out of our shop, both cats and ski doos, and we set them up as if they were our sled. i certainly like to talk to the buyer and get feedback to set up accordingly. now keep in mind, this will only be my third season building sleds, setting them up, AND riding them! i still feel pretty new to the game. having said that, i spend alot of time on skidoo and really prefer the xp and love to tweak my setup and play with adjustments. if you ever want to talk xp chasis, im always looking to learn more!

i try to stay up on all the "mods" but its really tough, and unfortunatly theres a lot of guys that "do it yourself" their sled to death when all they need is a small adjustment! its also really hard to work on a mod sled when somebody else, qualified or not, did the work. this new arctic cat m800 is definitely going to have a learning curve in this area!!!

like i said, come by the shop sometime and BS with us. clint's a cat guy, you know how they are! but ill always take time out to chitchat sled setup with somebody!

15lbs heaver then the 11's isn't a good start :face-icon-small-ton

THats good to know Rus. But only one man touches my Doo now and that's the guy that built it.

And when I say High Altitude I'm talking swapping springs, weights, ramps and helix. Good clutching is a weapon and a dealer isn't going to give it away with a new purchase, they should but they don't. To get that clutching usually costs ya $300 on top of purchase.

and it's gonna be a little different for everybody! depending on the size/skill of the rider and the feel your looking for. people always ask us what the difference between cats and skidoos is and i always answer that the biggest difference is the guy on the seat!

as far as the new cats go, i certainly have my concerns, as a guy who is gonna have to work on them! but im trying to reserve final judgement until we can get these things on the snow and run them in some powder! they may be the best thing since sliced bread, you just never know. and if you think 15 lbs heavier for the 800 is nuts, try lifting the 1100's out of a hole! youll never see that weight posted ANYWHERE!

The day I see an 1100 turbo stuck in a hole, I'll be riding around them and calling a tow truck.
