Alpha 1 ride review

What is the steering effort like when comparing it to the 850? Probably doesn't mean much to most people but I have grumpy shoulders from doing concrete and a bone spur and the doo feels like power steering compared to everything else.
What was wrong with the previous cat skis?

The keel tapering in the rear, causes darting, very annoying in firm snow or scary in a crusty layer over powder(death wobble)

The difference in lay down and vertical steering is hard to explain, the guy that owned the doo 850 thought the alpha took less effort to steer and it definitely handled crossing old tracks better, it didn’t try to rip the bars out of your hands like the ski doo sometimes does. It just feels different than the ski doo lay down steering. Gonna take some getting used to for you no matter what you ride.

Also the new bar setup is pretty sweet! Very functional and the bar heaters and thumb warmer work great. Being able to cycle through the gauge parameters is nice too. The smaller diameter bar is definitely easier to grip and to keep ahold of, lots of great changes on the 19 for sure.

It actually won't. I can ride either. I hop back and forth all the time. I had a axys turbo and my wife had a 17 850. Switched all the time. No big deal. I don't think one is right or wrong over the other. They are just different. I will still steal my buddy's axys turbo, that I sold him, and the last time my shoulder bound up and popped. A few weeks to get over that. I do know about the bar feedback on the doo but haven't had it happen that often.

Here is my worthless opinion. At this point everything is a give and take, change this or that, this is better that is worse. Depending on the rider and what they like or don't like. I think it will be good for certain aspects and a certain percentage of people will love them like everything else. Assuming they don't have some unforeseen issue with reliability. Watching the video it looks really similar to T-Motion, I can see and know that sidehill action watching the track "kick out" I personally never had any issue with T-Motion but did lock my sled out. It also looks like a guy I know that is 6'6 270 riding a 155 Polaris just his doesn't have the bucking look to it.

There now your all enlightened. :face-icon-small-coo

The picture above showing the skis, is one a gripper and the other a '19 Cat ski? Which is which?

Also, will there be a handlebar conversion kit for us '18 guys?

Left is the Gripper (looks similar to the 19 cat ski) right is the 18cat ski (same since 2016)

What did the 850 rider think about the sidehilling and rider response of the Alpha to the 850 ? How about the power and climbing ability ? I'm stuck between another 850 or an Alpha. The last Cat I rode was a 2016 and they have changed a lot since then.

Now this is third hand ha but he told me he thought the alpha was easier to hold a line and the power felt more linear not a big hit off the bottom like the 850 has but top end felt similar. When we lined the sleds up the alpha would outclimb the 850 by 20’ or so. Climbing ability I would give to the alpha again because of the ease of holding the line, in my opinion it took more effort to make the 850 keep its edge.
