Almost spent the night in the woods

we stock jacks too!! colorado call my at the shop tomaro!!!
I will definately call you, but probably next week. After work tomorrow we are suppose to start the drive to Minnesota to see the In-Laws, weather permitting. Hell, I should have the spot messenger for the car trip. So pray for more snow, and I'll have to miss the 15 hour drive (in good weather) and stay home.

Wasn't but a few years ago when 2 of us got stuck up at the flattops in early season sugar. We were not too far offtrail but far enough that it was a bit of a hike. It was a fri late afternoon and we were the only rig in the lot when we went out.

We had dropped into an small open area that turned out to be a sage brush field just covered with snow. Because of the overall situation and our skill level it took 2-3 hours to get out of that sheat.

So riding with a partner is not the answer to everything, but I still would never ride alone.

I will say since that night I definetly carry enough gear to spend the night and be comfortable. My pack may be a little heavier than most, but it will be there when it counts.

I ride alone more often then I care to admit. Bottom line is I carry enough of everything to last 72 hours plus, that is provided nobody is seriously hurt or burried. Probably be easier to ride without the extra 60+ LBS of gear

if you go back country riding alone long enough you are going to get in a bad situation.....i.e. aron ralston.......he spent a lot of time "going solo" doing stuff and not using much smarts and it finally caught up to him. the unexpected WILL happen. he had buried himself in an avy several months before getting his arm caught and having to cut it off. you pay your money and you take your chances. i like to have the most odds in my favor, not play with house money over and over. murphy sleds too....

In 2005 my buddies and I made a trip to west yellowstone for the weekend. There where about 6 of us total three sleds were older 340's and 440's. The other three were my closer buddies on bigger sleds. I was on my 05 900 RMK. We decided to go for a night ride for a couple hours. The people on the smaller sleads went about half way in. My buddies and I on bigger sleds went a little farther down trail. The other sleds were a M7 and a 700 RMK. We get about 5 miles in trail and we were running pretty hard i was at the tail end of our group of 3. All of a sudden I heard a huge bang and my sled died. The other 2 kept riding not knowing what happend. I sat on my sled figuring I had blown the motor because it wouldnt turnover. I had no flahlight. I waited for what felt like 15 mins for them to ride back my way but there was noone. So I decided to walk back to the other group. I got about 2 miles and my buddies finaly showed up. The bad thing here was i passed a few sets of wolf tracks as I was walking and it was midnight so i was pretty nervous. I know I made the mistake of walking away from my sled. Oh ya the problem was a busted belt. Came back the next morning replaced it and carried on.
