Airbox mod with a twist

Thought you guys might want to see the airbox mod I just did. Figured I'd get a little creative with it, so I used clear Lexan for the lid. Looks pretty cool as you can see right into the airbox. I know it'll get dirty on the inside in no time but it looks pretty cool sitting in my garage.

Going to try this air box mod and straight pods this winter. Have a ton of venting so I'm curious as to how the pods work.

Not sure, but I am too scared to play with ym airbox now. Another thread was mentioning that if you muck around with how much air can flow into the airbox too much it can screw up the fuel/air mix too much.!! Any truth to this? I was gonna block off all the vents that let in warm air so that only air is sucked in through the snorkel, but someone advised me against that.

Here's the thing..........

Cleaning up the flow, air intake or exhaust, will lean out your engine.
If you do this there are performance gains to be had, but you need to make sure your burn is safe by learning proper tuning. Plug reading and piston wash is the way most people do this. It also helps to have EGT guages. You should use all. The only salvation that some of these non-tuners have is that Cat sets all there sleds up with quite a safety margin. That is they are rich to start with. Less warrantee claims. Some guys think they realy have come up with the magic, when all they did was lean out there engine.

2005 1-m , You did a nice job and I have a similar, but not as cool air box top. I can't stand the noise, but at low alt. I put a thick sock over it. When in deep powder or high alt. I let her go. It will change the burn and can be used instead of a small jet change.

Guess I should just leave it then, hehe, dont want to screw anything up. It ran fine last season so I dont want to mess with anything and I dont know how to read plugs or any of that stuff. If it aint broke, dont fix it!

It's a hobby, it's fun to see improvements made.....

There is a book on tuning, but I can't remember how to spell the name. Sounds like Aeen. They have one on tuning and one on clutching. Both go hand in hand. With more power comes more clutching. I feel the little gains done by guys on this forum are a waste of time as you could have a complete vision of all you can do then tune it and clutch it, By a piece meal aproach, you're always searching and never finding the crisp snappy performance you'd like.
Get more help on reading plugs and go ahead and perc up your ride.

attack

put a holtzman atac on and never rejet again. efi like altitude compensation that is always spot on best of all if you mod it (big bore) jet for the mod reset the atacc and ther you go. there like 250.00 or so my sled is jetted for 4000-7000 but i ride from 2500 -10000 and it works awesome.

I cant help to be skeptical about claims like this, no offense.
If the quick fix like this worked for real.....totally worth it.
just sounds too good to be true.
sorry for the skepticism but It seems that everyone would be raving about it if it was that easy.

Yeah I read about those ATACC things, wondered if they were any good. Seems like it would be easier than re-jetting all the time. Especially since I plan on doing some big trips this winter up to Revelstoke and Golden, I hear the terrain gets pretty high up there, anywhere from 1000m - 3000m.

I mainly ride 1400m to maybe 2300m locally.

Just keep finding more things to spend on my sled, lol, but not enough money to go around! :face-icon-small-dis

Revelstoke is not high..............

It's what I call middle. I have to ride here in MN at 1,300' that's low. Cooke, Island Park are quite high 7,500 to 9,500'. Revy is 4,000 to 6,000'. I go down from the low elevation about six jet sizes for Revy and ten for Cooke and rarely rejet out there. Unless it's way warmer or colder tha anticipated.
