aftermarket skids for XP how much better do they work

I have a XP163. What skids are they best for climbing and deep snow? Are there big gains for the money? What is the best skid for around $2000?

I did not change my skid I went with an Evolution Air set up from Tom's and 2" drop down brackets and then dropped the front down 1 1/4" and a 2 wheel kit for about $1550 or so and it is a whole different sled in the powder and climbing, it flat rocks up the hill and floats in the powder. I also know that the Holz skid is very good and that would be my other option.

This is what I have heard.

The TimberSled Mtn Tamer works great and others may too if they are coupled I'm thinking rear to front. When the rear starts collapsing it forces the front arm to collapse also, this softens the angle of attack and the sled stays on top of the powder better. The stock skid doesn't do this, the rear arm starts collapsing and the front arm can stay fully extended making the angle of attack worse and making it trench worse in some conditions.

Big John says the 163 trenches more and he has a few fixes for the stock skid that helps a bunch in this regard.

Good Luck

The stock skid does not contol tranfer well causing unwanted ski lift plus trenches. I have a 146 and on a fully coulped skid it performs better than a stock 154 in every respect.

What kind of skid is that?:beer;

X2

I dig the blacked out look!

The Racers Edge system is one of the best out there. I've sold some this year and my customers say it's best riding and handling skid they've ever rode. It's a true, fully coupled skid and keeps the front end down on the steeper stuff. It' a really nice system. There's a pic of it in Sled Products on my site, there's a link in my sig.

Makes a big difference. That shock is a custom built fully (and I do mean fully!) adjustable set up. After you ride one, you'll think it was worth it. Darrell and Lance know suspensions!!

I talked to Bud at Timbersled today and he was very helpful. I believe I am going to try their product. They are also having a 20% off clearance sale.

I've rode sleds with both skids, Racers edge new system and Timber Sled. The Timber Sled system is lighter but that's where it ends. The Racers Edge system is ALOT better in ride, handling, controls transfer better and is alot better all around system. It's unbelievable, how well it works, I know aguy that just put one in and says it rides better than an M-10 and I'm inclined to agree with him. I would rather pay "2 bones" for something that makes a huge difference than pay less for something that does not work as well. I'm not trying to bash Timber Sled as their suspention does work better than stock and it is light, so if it's all you can afford then that's fine but it's not as good as the Racers Edge stuff by a long shot.

Oh and Reeb, are you mocking Extreme Machines by stealing the photo or what? I wonder what Dan would think of the fact that he just aswered the question about skid options and you came on and started bashing and posting photo's from his site etc. You are a piece of work!

How does the racers edge compare to Toms Snowmobiles evolution air rear set up. Any kind of thoughts or opinions appreciated

I can't honestly give you an opinion on the Tom's Evolution myself, I have no experience with them. I can tell you the Racers Edge may not look like much but it amazing how well it works. Maybe someone can help with thoughts on how the Tom's system works. Dan

WHOA DUDE!
I said that I'd love to try one. If it works that well then it's worth the money. It's a big step, that's all. The stock skid is in no way capable the way it comes outta the box, but there's some fine tuning and revalving that can happen to improve the stock skid from what it is. Certainly not the same performance by all the talk, but better nonetheless.

I went to Dan's site because he mentioned it was there. When I said "I stole" the picture, I meant it WAS FROM Dan's website. Read my reason for editing......giving credit where credit is due.......I'm not bashing anyone pal.

No problemo. But still wanna know........is that what you get? Bolt up to the stock mounts or new? Options for shocks? Anything special needed to know about installation?
If I can spend 2g's and keep the warranty on the motor(no big bores) and still be competitive.....I'd rather spend the moola on suspensions than engine mods......with some decent clutching(read no heat) the engine itself is fairly capable. So if I can get the same places without touching the motor.....I'm all for it.

Agree with you Reeb. That picture and not much info makes 2g seem much. Ok, I hear people here say it's worth it but so does alot about the M-10 from CR or FTX.
