Aftermarket Front Bumper?

Went up to Little Truckee Summit yesterday with 8+ feet of new snow. WHEN I got stuck I tried pulling on the stock front bumper to help get the sled out and it felt like it was going to pull the front of the sled off! Now before anybody says anything...I know the best way to avoid this problem is NOT to get stuck but it happens in deep powder like that once in a while right? So my question is: do these aftermarket bumpers I see people using on the 900's mount a little firmer, more solid etc so you can tug on the front bumper a little to move the sled around and get it out?

This is how the Skinz bumper mounts. The lower mount is directly to the bulkhead where the A-arms are mounted and upper mount goes through the upper part of the bulkhead. You would have to remove your front radiator/heat exchanger if you haven't done that already, for it to fit.

front end update

I had to replace everything on the front end of mine due to a collision with a tree. I wanted to use the skinz bumper and salvage what I had. But everywhere I phoned to order it, they were all back ordered and could not give me a delivery date. I ended up getting the 09 Polaris update kit. It comes with the tubular bumper, hood hinge, nose cone and all the lower fenders. It looks alot better and is fairly sturdy. I am not sure if it will fit the 900 tho.

I had a Tri city Polaris bumper, destroyed that eventually, great bumper though. I much prefer the Skins bumpers, much cheaper, lighter, and easier to mount and get the hood lined up. I have Skins on both of my Poos.

I thought everyone knew that the stock bumper only served as a hinge for the hood. If you tried lifting by it than it is broken for sure. The Skinz Bumper is extremely solid, I can set the front bumper in my rear stand and lift the front of the ground to work on the skis.

Skinz bumper is around $200

09 front end conversion with a better bumper runs just over $400, and yes it works on a 900 as long as you are running the Fire N Ice, Timbersled or tri-city intake with a powder filter.

Yea that skinz bumper looks pretty good but seems pricy for what it is. I have tried the SLP rad delete and my sled way overheated! I wnet back to running the front radiator but in serier rather than the stock parallel config. It runs much cooler with the way I ride (60/40 trail/powder and like an old man!). Any other bumpers like the Skinz on the market that don't require the rad delete?

Nope, all aftermarket bumpers require the radiator to be removed.

You running scratchers? I've got Slidekicks on mine and temps on the trail hardly ever reach 130 in marginal conditions. No scratchers and it'll jump to 160 + right away.

Yea, I have had scratchers through every evolution of my cooling system and the best so far is with the front radiator in and running in series. Mine's the same though...no scratchers and it goes up to 160+.

You may have airlock in the cooling system. I was experiencing the same problems such as you have described with high temps. I have ice scratchers and fresh antifreeze. I have also removed the front radiator so i could install my Skinz front bumper on my 06 Poo 700 RMK. I lifted up the front of the sled opened the hood and cracked open the small bolt on top of the cylinder head and allowed a little bit of antifreeze and air to drain out. Problem solved.

After you bleed the system lift the front end or park it on a steep incline and run the engine up to temp so the thermostat opens up and circulates the antifreeze.

John,

There is no bumper that I know of that will let you leave the radiator in place. If you are running that much trail you can run ice scratchers and that will cool it right down. I can run my scratchers down on a hard packed snow and will drop the temp on my Pro RMK down from 190 degrees to 125 degrees in less then a mile. We have sold a ton of the Skinz bumpers to folks here on Snowest and you won't be disappointed.
