aerocharger re clocking

Well-known member
hey guys,
wondering if anyone has reclocked an aero before? i know guys have done it but i guess it can be screwed up easily. i just have to move my vein controller about 30 degrees but didnt know if ppl have had problems doing that or if its just best to send it in to aerocharger??

I've turned the exhaust housing.

I've removed the clamp, turned the exhaust housing, clocked it and put the clamp back on. It had 900 km on it before I took it off. Be sure the center section and intake/compressor half don't move apart!

that is a nice thing about garrett or any other turbo. re clock it all you want. loosen the bolts holding it together a little bit, rotate it to wherever (exhaust, or intake side) you want and tighten it back down again.
Wonder how much it cost to ship it their and back plus how much does aerocharger charge? plus the down time while it is getting done. Huge pain in the butt.

We won't charge a thing! We will be in Afton next weekend at the RMSHA race. Do you want the turbo in a vertical set up or horzontal?

its in a vertical set up now and the compressor and exhaust are up but the vein controller is 90 degrees straight out and i cant close my side panel. i just need it moved to the upper set of holes so it is in more of a vertical position so everything clears.
A-brad, you work for aerocharger? it wouldnt cost anything? i called and they said it was going to cost a bit. let me know, im very interested in getting something done.

thank you for the negative feedback Aerocharger_Brad. I am just stating facts. correct me if I am wrong.
So screech calls and is told he is going to get charged for it. then you post it is free. wow... :face-icon-small-dis
How about you make it easier for the customer to do it themselves or post a how to on your website or something.
I am just saying it is a simple 5 minute process any one can do by themself with a conventional turbo. Aerocharger is a pain in the butt and time consuming process.
Garrett you rotate it and put it exactly where you want to match it up with your pipeing and tighten the bolts back down. Now what if he sends it off to aerocharger to get reclocked and it is not exactly where he wants it? Send it back in again.

im not saying i dont like the aero. i really like it. but im just trying to find a solution to how its currently set up. :whoo:

Your post did nothing to address question that was asked and added nothing to the thread. Rotating the housing is something that can be done in the field IF you know a few tips. Changing the location of the controller is another story as the control rod goes into the inside of the turbo. If the turbo has lots of hours on it then things tend to be harder to move. If the rod gets bent then we have to disassemble the turbo. We have a standard charge for Tearing down, Rebalance, clean, replace consumables, new gaskets, oil reassemble and a new box. That fee is $179. I was waving that fee for him to encourage him to send it in so we can make sure he has the best possible experience. Thank you for your concern.

wow... I see lots of posts every day that do not address the question that was asked or add any thing to the thread. you better get on giving negative reps to all them too. or am I just speacial?

So how can you rotate the houseing yourself then? Mind posting those few tips so you don't have to spend $179 plus shiping their and back and a lot of down time to get your turbo reclocked.

clocking

I think what Brad was trying to say was.... that he'll be travelling, possibly near screech's location, thats why he could clock it for free? I thought that was nice of him. PS I love my 66 Aero. Forget the 53, put on a BIG 66, Then she'll go! SWEET.

heck ya! i agree on the 66! Just talked to Brad. he was super helpful. he could have told me to send it in and go on with life but thats very nice to go out of the way to help me. thanks brad! we got everything worked out to get it moved.

Either way I would not have charged him. We do have a fully load race trailer that we take to most RMSHA races. We also have a turbo PRO-RMK and Turbo E-TEC 800 in the trailer. If anybody ever needs anything or just wants to get together to ride our sleds or to have us look at your sleds, let us know. We always have time to kill between races. Aerocharger_Andrew is fling to Salt lake tomorrow and staying through the Afton race. Oil, shirts, shims, e-clips, stickers, ideas, kit parts or anything else just find us. FYI we don’t carry a cash register. We just want to help and support our customers.

ill pay for shipping on that stuff haha since i dont think there are any races near here. you guys going to the expo in west yellowstone??

badass1000, i am not sure you are taking in account your down time related to you garett based kit compared to the aero kit?? sticking open blowoff valve, changing oil your turbo oil tank, changing your down again oil pump, checking all wires welding on oil pump malfunction ect.. i am currently driving a tm1000 garett kit, t-iqr(tdo5h based custom kit), and a td8 aero kit and my aero kit has been the most reliable of all so far (3000 miles).......garett and aerocharger have their plus and minus but let everybody enjoy their kits and do the same thing with your garrett based kit, no need to bad mouth anybody ....just my .02

I have never had a single problem with the garett turbo on my sled or any of my turbo street bikes. Havn't had a problem with my little $50 oil pump either. If my oil pump does go out the O'riely a block from my house has one and so does any NAPA or O'riely. I change the oil in the turbo on my sled once a year. So I guess I got 15 min of down time a year on my garett turbo when I change the oil. About a 1/3 of a qt of mobile one synthetic 5w30 you can get any where. How do you change the oil in a aerocharger, how much does it cost, where do you get the oil? :rain:

:focus:

As long as it is runing corectly any turbo is better then no turbo. :face-icon-small-coo

It is very simple to change the oil in an Aerocharger although unnecessary. If you do choose to change the oil, remove the brass pipe plug on the compressor housing and turn the turbo upside down to drain the oil. The oil costs $9.95 a bottle and is available from Aerocharger or HiPerformance and many of our dealers. The 53 series only takes one bottle and the 66 series takes two bottles for a complete fill.

I just recommend that you check the oil level once a year by removing the same brass pipe plug and inserting a zip tie. You are looking for about an inch of oil on the zip tie. As long as the level is good you are ready to go, if it is low just add a little oil to bring it up the the proper level.
