Advice for a new doo guy?

I am getting rid of my polaris mod and going to pick up an 05 rev this weekend, the sled is stock except for an MBRP can. Are there any issues with this sled? Since I can't leave anything alone are there any aftermarket things that I can't live without? What about clutching, the guy says he hasn't touched the clutches? Is there anything that is a must do as far as clutching. I have worked on my poo a lot, but know nothing about the rev, any advice would be appreciated.

The 05 rev was a good machine. It didn't have the p-tech engine that was on the 06's, but had small well worth it improvements over the 04. I had a 04and it was a great machine. I'd keep the can, gear it down one tooth on the upper sprocket and ride the bag off of it. My dealer had done his own clutch work on mine. You might want to get a TEAM roller secondary, the 05s had a button secondary. An RK Tech drop in kit also works well on the 800 Ho's!

05 great machine

I have an 05 and it is great. Check the bolts on the y-pipe, that is the only issue I have had. I put a Dynamo^Joe clutch kit on it this this year and that was a tremendous addition to its performance. Have a blast.:)

There are some things you have to look over...

Those rings might need to be replaced... they flake on the edges, not an immediate issue, but it is good to look at them and put in the chrome rings.
Look closely to the carb boots. they tend to delaminate and leak , thus producing a lean condition.

These sleds are jetted fat, check your plugs, and see what has to be done.
Oil consumption is also high, make sure cable to oil pump is not sticking, and calibrate the cable for approx 40:1
Do a visual inspection of the gears and chain. see if the sprockets are on the same plane. mine was out 1.3 mm.
Take apart the recoil and clean/ inspect it.

I have the hyperlite clutch and it outright ROCKS!

Edit: Ih yeah, and PM me if your running boards are sacked out. ;)

05 800 is a great machine. Give it a thorough inspection, add fresh plugs, change out the chaincase oil, then ride it hard and see how it works for ya. I agree the rings should be replaced with chromes as the stock rings do indeed flake out.
Clutching is of key importance and will up the performance and reliability when set up properly on any sled...I have put a Team Secondary on several doo's for the past 5 seasons... they work awesome.

Not sure on the Hyper Lite clutches..as I've never tried one so I cannot say how they perform compared to the Team

I did look into them and found this

Marcuso you should read it just for a laugh....its pretty funny stuff. Two or three guys screaming over who has the best clutch system.

chevits, the team secondary really works well, if you are interested in one I have one that has about 150 miles on it. I would let it go at good price. let me know if your interested.

they are roller secondaries. reducing friction for upshift and making backshifting easier. the doo secondary is a button clutch.

Rollers also run much cooler thus sparing belt life

HAHA that skidooracer guy is a dork.. LOL

Thanks a bunch guys

Thanks for all the info guys. I will definitely look into a team clutch, and check the other stuff. Should I just do rings or is is better to switch to a different piston with two rings?

Love the new sled

Picked up the new sled last weekend and rode it it runs awesome! The handeling is great too! Throttle response is much better than the boggy twins on my mod. I need to do some venting around the clutch and I think I might do the Dynamo Joe Kit. A boss seat and some simmons are also on the agenda! I'm sure all the sleds are good But I love my new doo!:D
