ABS/Pulse bag on a credit card thoughts.

Guys, I'm not telling him don't buy. I'm telling him don't rely on any piece of equipment to keep him 100% safe. The ABS system is a great tool, but it's not 100%. 95% means 5 out of the 100 are going home in a bag. No tool is going to surpass knowledge and common sense, and just knowing when to call it quits and get out of harms way.

Oh and togwotee9, since I'll be riding with them, and further since I know they all just bought beacons, yeah I'd like to know they are able to use them. Comment wasn't aimed directly at you. Because of where I live and ride, wearing, practicing, and being able to use my beacon has become second nature. I wouldn't ride without it anymore than without my boots.

Anyway just my .02 ........ flame on now.

X2. i have just made it a habit of my getting dressed in the morning.

No equipment can make up for lack of common sense, but I've been known to get a little stupid on occasion. IMO you should use common sense and try to have as much safety gear as you can. Some of the avy reports this week have had victems dug out in less than 15 minutes and they still died. If you can swing the price of a ABS, do it.

the way i see it is that it is kinda like pregnancy the only sure fire way to avoid it is abstenance, its your decision to ride the slopes but always take in account the dangers and try to be prepared as your can, i have a beacon, shovel, probe and avalung pack but there isnt any garuntee youll be safe unless you avoid those areas

I won't ride without my airbag now. I feel naked without it. Whether to go in debt for it is a tough question.
If it were me, I would either go into debt and get one or not go riding in the Mountains when the avy conditions are "considerable" or higher. (However, having an airbag won't make you invincible. If avy danger is high, stay off the hills PERIOD. Even with an airbag, use the avy reports to your advantage.)

, learn to read the snow and the avalanche reports for your area.

I would say if your down to your last few bucks and need to finance your protective equipment you should snowmobile less for now and get the budget cleaned up so you can save up some cash, eliminate the debt and have more disposable income. The hills will still be here next year. Your gut might have already mentioned that.

People have died just riding the trail in Cook below Daisy on town side and heard recently some guys were buried on town side of LuLu. Those two places are not exactly stupid riding unless you want to say mtn sledding is stupid. You can only ride about half of Cook if you don't go through those two passes.

Good Luck

If I was going early this year to slide prone areas I'd be figuring a way to get one. Pretty much decided I will in the next year for sure.

You can ride all of Cooke without going up Lulu or Daisy. You just have to ride a few more miles.
