interesting riding day story..

I recently completed building my header for the sled.. thread is here.. and this was going to be the first ride with it. I get on the trail, wait for some peeps to finish getting ready, then take off. I look down at my gauge and it is flashing code 84. I am like WTF? I feel no difference in power or anything, so it didn't seem like the code was too important. :D

Code still flashing but whatever. We start going off trail and playing around. I eye up this cool little bump and say, hit it! Well, as I approach I am thinking, 5 miles so far this season, new revalved front shocks, different setup on my rear suspension, maybe I should take it easy..

As I launch in the air, it is appearant that I should have driven around the bump. I launch off sideways. I can save it, I say to myself. As the right ski digs into the snow hard, I think, more throttle...

Well, more throttle didn't work. As I lay on the snow with my tunnel and track on top of me, I think... What a great start of the season... Thank god my tether worked as well. I don't know how long my chest protector would last compared to the track..

Actually, I am thinking, get this fricken sled off me before I die!!!! Heavy POY... I manage to get out from under the sled, think incredible hulk when he is angry... without the incredibleness. I get up and look around. Do a quick body check, yep, some things are hurting. I try and get my sled uprighted, but no go. Friends come over to help me right the sled.

I am sitting on the POY now, and just shaking my head. I look down at the running board and there is this gear laying there. I look at it... dang, that looks kind of important, being shiney and all. I give a call to my bud tomMTX to find out what code 84 is, track speed sensor failure, and it comes together. I open up the side panel, yup, gear missing. I look around and hey there is the bolt that holds it on. Put it all back together and go for a spin and code disappears. All is well.

Best first 10 minutes of a season ever!!!

Moral of the story: If something is wrong with your sled, it is likely that you need to crash it to solve the problem.

At least it worked in my case...

ruffy, good story how did it run after that any different?
jer
I didn't run to well after that... :p

speed sensor is only used for speedometer and odometer it seems. Nothing really important. Some of the other more important error codes limit throttle settings / degrade performance.

Wow Ruffy, you are so lucky that gear didn't drop into the snow and disappear for ever! Funny story.

Looks thinner up there than I thought it would be. Considering Alpental and Baker are both reporting 100" base I was expecting it to be covered up a little better.

Could use a little zoom to see what's going on here. Hit a tree Dale?
Well, that would make finding him too easy wouldn't it. You are more then welcome to donate to the "help ruffy get a better zoom camera fund" when ever you want.:p
who's ridin' the old Indy?

Is it an XLT?
yah, they were some of justadudes friends, I believe they are his old sleds.

good postings and good story ruffy!!

You have to ride the POY team...I had to drink a whole growler by myself pushing ruff to weld his poo together....standing around with my welding helmet shielding my IPA from being scared.........

yep you got that right.. His bearing isn't in Japan or the States... I have yet to find an aftermarket replacement either.. It doesn't look good.
