A happy 07M8 owner with some questions

I have a 07M8 153 challenger with ~2000 miles, 1400 of which were put on at a dude ranch trail riding. It runs great day in and day out. No bogs. I have a 3.5 inch riser, boss seat and it is clutched pretty close to perfect. I am not looking to buy a new sled.

I have two questions.

1. Who is the best person revalve my rear shocks. I am 250 plus with gear and on the lowest spring setting I can't bottom this thing out. It does not transfer very well and the ride seems harsh.

2. If you had $600 dollars to spend would you buy the Powerclaw or an SLP single or save your money? The stock challenger works well but flattens over pretty easily, almost scary on hard pack. The extra power would be nice but I don't want to run a controller box or compromise the running quality.

Thanks,
Rob

Skip the PC... It can get pretty scary going downhill too. I bought one and then I piped my sled later. Pipe it first, you will have much bigger noticeable gains.

Give Andy Youngstrom a call for your shocks.

He's very inexpensive and I understand he does a great job.

Also, I'm sorry but I have to disagree about the powerclaw.

I probably ride in some of the same areas your ride in eastern Washington and I love the Powerclaw. In the snow in our area I believe there is more water content than the snow in Wyoming, Utah or Colorado and the Powerclaw seems to work very, very well.

After reading about how it wasn't very good for going downhill I was actually impressed with how well it worked going downhills. I never once felt like I was on a toboggan ride going down hill.

My buddy has a 06 M7 153" with a Challenger and a I have a 09 M8 153" with a Powerclaw. To make a long story very short. My buddy just bought a 153" powerclaw from Rexburg motorsprts for $520. I'm not sure what your Challenger will bring for a price ($225?) so you could have a new track and get your shocks done for $400 or so.

I'd say, go for it!

Good Luck!

There is the problem with that PC comparision... Those sleds are night and day for quite a number of reasons.

I really think Piping the sled first is the way to go. Then put the track on it after you have the extra horsies and some extra money. Then you can compare for yourself.

Hopefully Frostbite is right and the track will make a big difference in the snow in your neighborhood. I know there's quite a debate about the PC on this board, I just wanted to let you know I did the track first and I wished I would have went the other direction first.

Either way good luck with it!

CB8- Got an 05' M7 153 and it's running a speedwerx pipe and can. When it was setup, they didn't install a boondocker box and it's been that way since brand new from what I was told. It run's real hard and we're yet to have a problem with it. I wanna say it's got 1400 miles on it now. So if your afraid of running a boondocker box with SLP pipe and can, maybe consider running a Speedwerx single pipe and can......

I'd go with the Power Claw track first if it were me. You won't be dissapointed. It's that much better.

If you can't bottom your rear suspension on the lowest setting, then I would invest in some different springs first.
If your springs are too stiff for your weight, revalving your shocks will do very little to remedy your problem.

I did the slp pipe and powerclaw at about the same time to my 09 crossfire 800 141". I had the track put on and took it out for about a 2 hour ride and my sled felt like a completely new machine, but this is from the cobra on my crossfire. Then I installed the slp pipe kit that night took it out for a ride the next day and it felt even quite a bit stronger on top end power. I lost a little on my bottom end, which im sure could be fixed with a fuel controller, but with the big gains on my top end i dont really care. I have 400 miles on the pipe with no fuel controller and zero problems or running issues, not even a burp. And back to the track issue, my friend put a challenger 2.25" track on the exact same sled as mine and there is no comparison IMO on hardpack, climbing, or in deep pow. In the snow i ride in the powerclaw all around outperforms it. People riding behind you might get pissed bcuz of the huge rooster tail it leaves behind you though!:D
