A different M1000 turbo?

Rydningen, have you tried a PG M1000 here at sealevel? Where, and who has one??

2868 is a forced performance 2860 with a billet compressor wheel and tial turbine housing. I have seen its big brother run on zeb's sled with amazing results and feel the 2868 is the right turbo for most everything. It comes on faster than a 2860 and flows more air than a 3071. Push is using them in their kits. Hobbes has one on his Apex and I will have one on an Apex next year. Basically the auto guys that have gone to tial housings have now taken the next step to the billet wheels with great results.

I was told by a distributor that the hta wheel would be a waste of money in a low boost application. Its gains over a regular wheel are at higher boost levels like 20psi and above.

we have 2 m8 turbos one a BD kit with standard 2860 turbo and one a push with the 2868 with the goods. and the push turbo sled pound for pound is a noticabely quicker than the the 2860... same clutch kit, both with pcV's and almost identical maps

I am assuming the 2860 is a cast internal gated turbine housing and the 2868 is a stainless turbine housing with an external gate. So there are more variables than just the compressor wheel.

I really should have mentioned those additional variables (ext wastegate, housing etc) when brining up the HTA setup but I assumed they were known. I know they come on quicker but it is probably correct that the benefits in low boost environments don't warrant the costs. I have for example seen a HTA 3076 at 11lbs even light way quicker than a Tial 3071 but this was in a different application. Both setups had the stainless housing and ext waste gate. For that turbo I would consider 11lbs low boost so maybe it applies maybe it doesn't. Overall I think they are far better turbos for a number of reasons as listed but the cost, reliability and replacement limitations definately weigh heavily especially for someone who is never going to use the top end. If you are going to use the top end I believe the cost is warranted.

Low pipe pressure

I probably will not build another turbo kit for a 2-smoker that uses a internal waistgate. The M1000 system I started slapping together in 2008 surprised me. Using a 44mm external waistgate at a meager 5psi it was tossing 93 gram weights @ 7900 rpm 2400 feet. The back pressure on this thing is low, IMO This is the key to freeing up some extra power. At 10psi boost I getting a reading of just over 12.5 pounds pressure in the pipe.

The boost threshold on this system is kind of high at 5700 rpm but after I make 2 pounds of boost the gauge pegs 10 pounds so fast the needle is literally a blur, I never had a system wack the boost on like this thing.

At Idle just touching the throttle pipe pressure goes up to 2psi instantly, I would like to correct this, There is some lag for the first 2 psi boost. I am going to try lightening the spring on the blow off valve so it is open at idel and do some clutching tuning on it. I think a littel bigger turbine would help as well but not worth the cost.

IMO again going smaller on the turbo will not bring on the power faster. Your snuffing up the exhaust, but the 2876 sounds intresting

You got any pics of the systems you built Big Bull, I like looking at other systems there is usaly an idea or two to be found in homemade stuff that I can steal. LOL

You might aswell toss some extra injectors in it, you will want them sooner or later.

I do not have any current pics but it looks nicer now that it is all powder coated up.
