A-Arms - Need some advice

Hey Guys - I need a little help.

I have the 2012 Pro with the red a-arms and I'm sprucin it up a bit for this year. I'm doing a black and white wrap, new seat, etc.. and would really like to match the a-arms.

I'm not sure what to do though. The way I see it, there are a couple options: Powder Coat, Anodize or Replace. (What about painting?) Here are the problems with each method:

Powder Coating: I'm not really a grease monkey, so I'll have to find some good directions on tearing down the a-arms and getting the bearings out and making sure I have the tools to do it correctly. I've read that powder coating could compromise the a-arms... Should I be concerned? Pros: I have a buddy who owns a powder coating shop that I trust.

Anodize: Don't know anything about it or anywhere to get it done. I live in Wenatchee, WA. if anybody has tips

Replacing: (1) Zbros is currently out of stock for the 39". Since my entire suspension setup is stock right now and I'm really comfortable on it, I'm assuming this is the option I want? (2) Do I really to spend the money on this? I ride aggressive but not sure how aggressive is needed to benefit from these. What about just buying some take offs?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Selling the current ones and getting zbros is probably cheapest option. There was just a post on here listing several zbros retailers that have arms in stock.

I think the lowest cost option would be to powder coat or have the arms painted .my friend did it and it was very reasonable ,a plus is that ou could do other parts at the same time .:face-icon-small-coo

As for the grease monkey part... you will need to remove all the same parts to get them coated or if you buy new aftermarket items that re-use the ball joints and bushings.

Makers of A-Arms

Holz
Timbersled Barkbuster
Skinz Protective Gear
Z-Broz
Alternative Impact

Sell the stock ones or keep them as spares and upgrade to aftermarket ones.

Powderoat will not compromise your a-arms. They are steel. There is debate about it affecting aluminum parts and it is a can of worms that pops up often.

Paint will not be very durable for as much abrasion as your a-arms will see.

I don't believe you can Anodize ferrous metals.

unless your powder guy has access to a chemical stripper i.e. banco I would just sell and upgrade. you are going to have a ton of time into trying to get that original powder off of there with a sandblaster or other method. Torch sometimes but you can burn through.

Best bet is sell and buy others whether they are aftermarket or a used takeoff stock set

hey

I bought a set of alternative impact 39 inch titanium arms ! his stuff is very nice and he was really easy to deal with
