hey guys havnt been on here in a long time how you all doing? im doing pretty good. about a month ago we got a huge snow storm about 2 and a half feet of snow so i took the old 9er out and well it ran fine for a while, i went to my grandparents house for super so about an hour and a half then i left from there ran fine i went into a feild and it was running good, as i start making my way home i notice the dash is shut off then it starts running like crap like bogging real bad. barely made it home i had to stop a few times and restart it. i made it to my drive way then that was it i had to tow it into my garage with my outlander.

So i just went and started it and it runs fine and i cant move it, i dont wanna leave it run for long just incase theres something wrong but it ran for about a minute no problems but no dash, the lights barely light up like they glow kinda orange just to say u can see it.

so any ideas on this?

thanks alot

Sounds to me like you may have a short somewhere in your wiring harness... grounding it out. When my stator wire rubbed through to the bulkhead, my lights went dim and display went out at idle. no runnability issues, but the electrical symptoms were similar.

That's my best guess...... not sure if that would cause runnability issues tho:confused:

BTW, I'm doing well, thanks;):beer;

Sounds like a chassis relay to me maybe..

or possibly a bad stator

good thread to check out
http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1681559

the relay is only like $12 from polaris..so wouldnt hurt replacing it anyways..

or check for frayed/shorted wire somewhere (ecspecially off Voltage regulator from rubbing on tank, and stator wiring rubbing on bulkhead)

and test your stator

good luck

Sounds like the stator to me, but I could be wrong don't know much about electrical. I think there is also a relay that causes this also.

ok like i hope its not the stator i just went and checked and i have no back lights either, i had asked what a relay is but nvm lol im reading that thread thanks guys.

ok so im not sure were the relay is? or the ground screw can u guys help me out with this? ill check it tomorow when i get home from school. but from what i read there it seems to match the syptoms, if i had a bad stator would the sled run at all?

the relay is located on the wiring harness on the MAG side of the engine...right behind the engine brace...it is usually zip tied to the harness..

the relay could be loose or very corroded as well...check it over..

the the ground screw is on the PTO side by the secondary clutch on the framing just above the coolant hose coming off of the running board..

if the stator is "starting" to go bad, it would run but not well...

keep in mind, a BAD stator..could still test good..

but dont get carried away...many things could cause this...even a shorted hand warmer, loose wire, frayed wire making contact with metal causing a short..ect ect ...

check it all good when you get the time...its a PINA, but worth it and it allows you to get famaliar with your sled and its componets as well...;)

good luck

To know if its a short after the relay check the voltage at the relay when it is running. It should be around 12v. If its low unplug the relay. If it is 12v now. you have a short in that system. plug relay back in and start unpluging stuf on that system, hand warmers ,thumb warmers, low oil sending unit.
Mine was the low oil sending unit in the two stroke oil tank. unpluged it and everything came back on. lights and dash would shut off when the tank got about 1.5 qt low. So i replaced the sending unit and it did the same thing. It must be a short to ground in the signal wire gowing back to the ecu.
I just fill up the oil or unplug it
