See screenshot stolen from the book of face. It's interesting for sure. I'd like to hope that it's maybe a case of a couple random, out of spec cranks slipping through the cracks. I sure haven't heard of any breakdowns and would think with social media we'd have heard almost instantly.

May explainswhy I saw a post in another forum that the rider's 858 vibrated a lot.

snowest was at the factory years ago videoing how the cranks are balanced, could just be someone not paying attention, as the 600 and 800 had no issues with a crank,

.006 is big trouble range for crank runout... Hopefully this is something isolated and not a common issue. Stuff happens, especially when something new comes out. As for the "throw away" crank comment, it wouldn't surprise me. I've heard something similar about the Poo 850 crank. The word was that it's difficult to get apart cleanly - not that they're impossible to rebuild, but they're not made to be rebuilt anymore. It wouldn't be so bad if you could get a new one for $500, but try $1900... Big step down from the Fuji cranks Polaris used to use, and it sounds like Cat is following suit. Seems like something in the forging or machining process needs attention; I wonder what the defect rate actually is.

i saw that post today as well and i think i'll need to see/hear more before passing judgement. i remember someone doing a youtube video tour of the engine facility and found the video, linked below. at about 0:45 he starts talking about crankshafts and how they check each one in a machine before putting it in an engine. It's hard for me to believe that they were doing something on 600's last year that they didn't do on 858's this year.

My classmate was the QC guy at the St Cloud engine factory, he was let go because of his age.

Dan @ INDY Specialty- is pretty knowledgeable, and finding this just makes a guy scratch his head...
I hope for Cats sake its tolerable- but .006 is like a washing machine on spin cycle with bath towels all on one side....

Well Indy Dan predicted very early (just like this) that the 2019 Polaris 850 crank was made wrong. And guess what he was right. Many crank failures that model year. In 2020 Polaris changed the pto end to what Dan said was wrong with it and would fail. I had one of those 19’ 850 engines, it made it a whopping 15 miles before it locked up.

So he was encouraged to take a voluntary early retirement, I rememberhearing about that a while back? You sure he wasn't QC in Thief River Falls or in a different department? My contact says there hasn't been anyone over 40 years old in St. Cloud QC for the last 10 years.

I recall he was up to the TRF factory a few times, he now works a QC job for Bobcat in Litchfield
