800 vs 600

I was in the same seat as you last season. After riding Nytros since -09 it was time to swap for something new, which meant selling my, by then, one year old 2012 153" Nytro.

Like you I had my mind set on the Pro RMK, but couldn't really decide on which engine. I ended up buying the 600 and I couldn't be happier. It currently has about 1500 miles on it with zero issues.

After I bought it I've had the oppurtunity to try an 800 as well and I can honestly say I wasn't impressed. I did expect a lot more from the 800 since the 600 ran so damn great.

The 800 obviously runs a bit stronger although it's not that big of a difference and since I, just like you, ride at sea level I don't think you'll miss having the 8, especially since it doesn't seem to be as reliable as the 6.

Anyway, don't take my word for it, scroll to the bottom of this link and see for yourself (600 Pro RMK at sea level):

Thanks - just what I was looking for - first hand experience of someone who came off a Nytro. Nytro has to be the best motor - will miss that - if only they would put it in an equally great chassis. Just want something that is fun and doesn't want to fight you every step of the way in stock form.

The 600 seems like a great transition - only wondered if / how much of the low end Nytro grunt would be missed hence the 600 vs 800 dilemma (not worried about top end so much).

Only way to do it right is go ride both the 600 and 800 when the season starts. Form your own conclusion to which better suits YOU.

not to thread jacket but im 150 lbs and im coming off a 95 580 cat...from what i have read 600s are a lot more reliable than the 8s. I haven't really done any mountain riding yet but I would like to with a new sled....im in British Columbia so i'd say we have a lot of steep and deep....again sorry to thread jack but i thought id just quickly pop my question in lol

Track length is a big factor when comparing , the 800 that has the torque to turn what ever length the factory has but they also offer the same for the 600 and when it comes to turning a 155x2 , and also don't forget that the 600 is detuned as of last year compared to the racer, you will eventually abuse that throttle like it's taped to the bar .

I went from a 2012 Nytro to my current 2012 Pro 600. After one season i can tell you that that was the best desition i have made in a long time. You might miss the grunt from the nytro engine at first, but the pro 600 will outperform the nytro in every way.

but the 600 racer is the 800 bottom end, and runs on high octane fuel...

I ride a 600

I'm 6'4" 245 un-geared and ride an '06 600 RMK 144, bone stock. I can tell you that my sled will keep pace with almost any 800 almost anywhere, other than straight up. Quick winding motor and plenty of HP when needed. The only downside to my sled is that it's not a 155. 3500 miles, no rebuilds and still strong as it was 5 years ago.

I'm surprised at all of the "well a 600 is a good kids sled" or similar posts. The 600 is an incredibly reliable mill and goes anywhere/does anything I ask it too, and I don't worry about it grenading like the 8's.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

A 06 600 144" will not keep pace with a 11-14 800 163 in the steep and deep. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I want a 163" and they don't offer it in a 600, there is a reason they dont. The 600 would not create the necessary track speed. While riding my 12 Pro 800 163" I have never wished it was a 600.

I have spent a fair bit of time on both the pro 600, 800 and a nytro and can say that the 600 is a hoot to ride. If reliability, fun and just riding are on the top of your list, I would suggest the 600. I would make sure and get the 155 though.

I have a 800 (turbo) and a 600 that my wife rides, it is a very well balanced sled and I like to ride it, in stock form there was not a whole lot of difference between the 6 and the 8

I have both a 2013 Pro 800 155 and Pro 600 155. The 800 does have more grunt when in the powder and when it gets steep.

The 600 is actually more fun to ride when you are just playing around. It seems like the it puts power to the track faster.

I have to agree that there is not too much difference between the two in stock form until you get in a couple of feet of powder. It sounds like you are a pretty big guy so I would probably stick with the 800.

An 800 pro 163" had better outperform my 7 year old sled or all those Pro owners got ripped off. :)

Maybe I should clarify, as I probably worded that badly. My experience (at my height and weight) has never been that an 800 is so far above my head that I couldn't ride with somebody on one. Mine won't climb as high, or float as well, or deliver as high a track speed as a 163 Pro. But that doesn't mean I can't hang either, as I have done on many occasions. I'm on my 5th year on this sled (With no engine issues, by the way) and still riding happily along with bigger and newer sleds regularly.

Agree not sure why we are comparing 7 year old tech.

Thank you , I guess I should of said that they offered a 600RR to the general public that does not have the race engine but has an increase in HP and the general public was left to believe that it was the same engine in the 600 pro when as of last year they de tuned that engine in the 600 pro . At least I do believe it was last year or maybe it was the year before ? I could be totally wrong but I do know they detuned the 600 for 2013 . After trying out a 155 600 pro last year subbing the hood I wasn't impressed , carved like a dream but the track was struggling to push it threw the carves and finessing technical moves at a slower pace was out of the question , stepped off of it a couple of times to save it .

What's the price difference between the 600 and the 800?

Just buy the 800 and enjoy the extra horsepower and capabilities of it.

You'll make your money back when you sell it anyways.
