800 ptek hanging rpms

i have a 06 renegade 800 ptek and noticed on the last trip i took my rpms would hang up after i let off the throttle. it happened when ever i let off the throttle completely, the rpms would stay at 4500-5000 even when the sled came to a stop and it would keep the clutch partially engaged to where it wanted to creep forward. the only way i could get the rpms to go down was to choke the sled untill they went below 2000 and then it would idle fine. does anyone know what would be causing this?

My XP did the same thing to me all day today. It would continue to idle at about 3500-4000 for what seemed FOREVER, and then eventually creep back down to about 2000, which it has always normally idled at from day one. Really irritating...

So, whats the fix? Is it just lean carbs? DPM?.....???

the problem with mine is that the idle will not come back down at all. i left if for 5 minutes once with the rpm at almost 4000. please someone help.

Mine was doin that too now before i really found the problem I had an issue with the piston ring pin . it seemed to have come out allowing the ring to spin and catch the exaust port. Now i don't think that was your problem. But in puttin it back together, i found that the reeds were comin apart, now I have new reeds my idle is normal, I think that may be your problem, I think at idle the broken reeds were letting too much air in which was causeing a lean condition.

Just my .02s worth.

the reeds seem to make sense. the engine blew up last year and was under warrenty and got a new top end. the mechanic that worked on it seemed like a dip s#%t and probably didn't check the reeds.

Could be the pilot jets, air screws, etc or a possible vacuum leak. They had issues with cracked carb boots. Could be cranks seals, reeds, air box mods. Might act different in different temperatures. Is it doing this all the time?
