Gents,

I am in the market for an IQ based 700 RMK. I prefer the 155' length and it does not need to be a Dragon.

I would appreciate any insights and recommendations on which year to target/avoid.

I am okay with an 07' or 08' with low miles as 09'-10' are at $7900 - $9000 +TTL here in Minnesota. I currently ride an Edge based 700 RMK.

I rode an 07' Dragon in ID in 07' and it seems strong although it seemed to have a slight bog when hitting the throttle hard initially. I noticed the gas tank changed capacity from 07' and the 700 RMK is still ~15 lbs heavier than the 800 RMK...?

thanks for your responses

I would shoot for the 09 and newer just based off the updated front end body work and bumper, along with the stronger rails, and revised spindles. but other than that Graphics and color is about the only real difference. Oh and in 08 they went to a single ring piston that is used on the 08-10's.

Get the RMK not Dragon, the only real difference is $1000 worth of Walker Evans suspension that needs to be rid anyway. The stock coilovers are much nicer for my liking. The 09 has a nicer front end, but you can change the 08 front end quite cheaply to save some money.

i have a 08, the color and graphics are awsome. like it the best out of all years, only thing it dosent have is new nose, the rails and lighter spindles dont bother me that much but i dont care that much about the new nose either.

Dont want to start a huge debate but why do people hate the walker evans so much? other than a few have problems but as for the ones that work dont they work well? i just bought a full set.........ive only heard the fronts loose air but if you send them to fab craft they can put adjustable piggy backs on and re build then they are flawless

2007 - Dragon needed revalving and new gas pressures in the shocks. The track was the 5.0 which was an underachiever. Some folks experienced plug fouling, mine never did. Taillight needed to be moved to the rear of the tunnel. Has plastic chaincase cover that warps.
2008 - better WE shocks, better 5.1 track. White hood looked pretty good, track length decals on the tunnel get kicked off when cleaning the running boards. Tailight was moved to the back of the tunnel. Low handlebar riser. Has plastic chaincase cover and maybe the add-on stiffener to prevent leaks. Has Doo style airbox that is easy to get off to adjust the oil pump. Oil pumps typically needed to get leaned out a bit due to high oil usage. New tank has a little added capacity but is not as narrow on top and makes it less ergonomic to squeeze with your knees.
2009 - Same as 2008, black and red looks good. Tunnel decals still in same dumb position. New plastic and bumper but old style a-arms and swaybar. Lightweight rails look cool but need rail stiffeners if you get after it. Has 5" handlebar riser with stock bars. Pro Tapers with a short riser are way better. Has better gearing, 19/41 and climbs much better with them but loses 1mpg on the trail compared to 07 and 08. Has magnesium chaincase over, no leaks. Some had a voltage regulator issue that could take out the ECU. The dealer should know which regulator # is the bad actor. Oil pumps were adjusted better, airbox changes and is tougher to remove and install.
2010 - same as 09 except for blue/white decals. kinda looks cool and reminds me of my 1990 Indy 500. This one is gonna get the Pro Taper treatment and rail stiffeners and maybe a fuel box.

All 4 years need hand guards or a taller windshield for midwest riding. I can't decide if wifey gets the new one or I do. If you're a big boy, you may want to get heavier wire torsion springs. All years need to have the plenum under the headlight sealed to the hood and headlight adjuster sealed up to prevent snow ingestion.
