WallStreet (Goldman Sachs) now says $200 per barrel is a possibility.

200/122 x 3.999 (premium current price) = $6.67

Would this put a damper on sledding???

We are paying $1.25 per litre today.....so basically 5 us bucks per gallon....get ready because it will be here shortly.:face-icon-small-sho

And all because there are now limits on building new refineries and finding new places to drill for oil. I hate the government:mad:

Its almost funny now how hitlery is saying if she is elected she will enact a short term "no gas tax" which isn't going to do a dmn thing. The gov is going to lose a lot of tax money(but they will get back from you in other taxes) and the oil companies will continue to get government help. What somebody (most likely the gov) has to do is deal with this the same way they delt with computers back in the 90's. Microsoft had a monopoly and charged as much as they wanted and were making record profits quarter after quarter. So the government made Microsoft split up. What happened? prices fell. Yes this also had a lot to do with advancements in technology but it was also because there was more competition. Well now the oil companies are all making record profits quarter after quarter. So we need to make the oil business more competitive. Give the oil companies some sort of incentive to lower their prices, instead of the way it is now where they get incentives for making more money.

no, no it is china's fault. They just started using cars and using petroleum last year right?

what a bunch of BS

rip

I just took a road trip to Phoenix on my motorcycle.....while going thru NM and AZ, at almost every station or convenience store in which I stopped there was at least one car sitting at a pump with the hood open and people waiting around, (I found this to be unusually widespread and common).....begging for money for fuel....nice cars, nice people, some with children in a crappy desert economy.....dealing with it as they can for there isn't much going on in these remote little towns.....and what they make working at a small business is no longer enough to pay the bills at home and buy fuel....putting a damper on sledding is gonna be the least of our problems.....and yes I ride less cause I feel like I'm gettin ripped off at the pump...I mostly ride a bicycle or motorcycle and keep a Civic in the drive for when the weather is really bad....besides tow gas for sledding I have brought my fuel expenses to a minimum.

I figure it costs $40-50 to run my sled for a day. If it cost $70-80 a day will I still go as often? Yes! When you consider what it costs to buy the sled, clothes, etc. you realize what an expensive habit it already is. What's a few more bucks? Disconnect your cable tv to save some money.

you got it wrong!!!!

the tax would come from the oil companies,it(tax) would still being paid ,just not by us.she would be sticking it to the oil companies
....for once...

shes has a great idea.....make the oil companies give up some of those profits toward the gas tax....she has my vote, because now she is talking about making it permanent....also shes is talking about a profit cap for the oil companies...so they can only profit so many %...instead now they can earn as much as they want.....this is good for us(snowmobilers) and any recreation sport.

You can't be serious??? Penalizing a business for being successful is NOT the way America works. If this happens do you think the oil companies will just take it and NOT pass on this new tax to the user (us)??? So they raise their costs to maintain their profits (which really aren't that high % wise) and then when the gas tax holiday is over we will be stuck paying MORE than if it never happened. It's only 18.4 cents/gallon anyway.....about 30 cents/day for the average American. A TERRIBLE PLAN!!
Not to mention, if she gets elected, she wants to put wacko Gore in charge of the environment plan and we stand a good chance of losing ALOT of riding area, perhaps the right to ride at all if he gets his way....his goal is to eliminate the internal combustion engine.

Plus you have to understand these USA based companies compete with international companies.

It would not stop me:)

It'll probably stop me completely.... Maybe even sell the deisel truck, and by nothing but fuel economy vehicles.

In the late 90s I could take the whole family out riding, 5 sleds( mind you they were all 440-580cc) and run for about 2.5 days on $100. It's damn near costing me that to run one sled right now(but it's an 1150 twin.)

I bought a 99 Saturn that gets 35 miles per gallon, and it's still costing me $250/month for fuel. My truck sits parked in front my house and will stay there only when I need it. I could go to BC in two weeks and ride, but probably won't because I'm not willing to spend the cash for fuel on the truck and sleds, so we'll just take the car and visit with relatives!

It's hurting me and I figure my wife and I do quite well as we are both RNs, and are Directors of Nursing at are perspective facilities. I don't know how the average American is doing it...oh wait, they're not!!! And fuel is only at 3.65/g.

It's going to get much, much , much worse at this rate. I'm tired of hearing about we have cheap gas comparatively, "over there " they have never had cheap gas so they don't depend on it like we do. Most countries in Europe are smaller than Montana so it certainly isn't going to impact them as much.

BUT, like it's been said lots before, EVERYTHING is going to go up in price, whether you tavel a lot or not, it's not like only gas prices are affected.

Call me whatever you want, the oil companies have a monopoly on this resource and they are taking FULL advantage of it, to the detriment of the world!! But who cares as long as they are making gobs of money.

I think it is ANTI AMERICAN what oil companies are doing to this country, isn't that what anti trust laws are for...it's about time the government did something about it.

The government has nailed many companies for under anti trust laws, like telecommunications, and most recently and notibly Microsoft...What a bunch of BS. I'd rather be paying 2,3, or 4 times what we pay for a computer right now than pay what we are for fuel and EVERYTHING ELSE that is related to it( which is everything).

Like I said, this is not American, it is ANTI AMERICAN. No company ( or a few companies) should have the power to affect so many people, this is a resource that should be regulated by government...they're bring this on themselves.

What would you all say if water were being charged at caomparitive to oil, becasue there is a shortage???? (there are companies buying water rights), I guess that would just be capitalism at work, right? I don't think so.

For all you that want to keep believing that this is simply supply and demand BS, go ahead. But then please explain to me why they are talking about $200 a barrel oil when US oil comsumption is down about 6.5%? Supply and demand my a$$.

Sorry for the rant(not really) but I'm done for a few days.

if gas goes 7.i think there will be more important things to worry about than sledding, like eating.

Not like spliting the middle class off the list for rather rich or poor......forget about even driving to work, it'll be easier to collect welfare at least you know you'll get food.....lol!!

If the government is strictly trying to control global warming that fast, why don't they provide more tax breaks for single people instead of great breaks for big families.

yep,this covers my point exactly

Let's look at what is needed for the current person to live today......reverse math per family for a needed yearly salary.

$15K (min) for retirement + $3400 yearly gas($65/wk)+ $2500 (min) Insurance (vehicle & home) + $7800 groceries ($150/wk) + $6760 medical Insurance ($130/wk) + $1200 (property tax) + $2500 (min) home heating + $900 electric ($75/month) + $7200 house payment ($600/mo..not mine but picked avg) + $3600 vehicle payment ($300/month) + $3000 college loans ($250/month)= $53,860 take home/yr

This is certainly without governmental taxes taxen out of your paycheck. For a safety factor use 1.25-1.5 times for take home pay.....of 1.5 safety factor would be a take home pay of $80,790to live decent.....Remember uncle sam will get most of your pay prior to taking anything even home.......I really hope you college bound students are looking to become millionaires, if not forget about college, you may never be able to pay off your college loans......pretty scary!!

I just bought a pair of high end snow go boots for $250. Nice boots, made in china, wish I had looked at the tag before I bought them. I only buy USA or Canada if I can. Someone here mentioned Wal-Mart. Go there, spend ten bucks to save a buck, then that ten bucks goes to china and is used to buy oil pushing up the demand, also known as cost, of oil. We are the ones pushing up energy costs and screwing up the economy. Buy American, and ask tough questions, like why does HMK manufacture it’s boots in china and why are Democrats playing politics with this countries energy needs.
This Alaskan supports oil development in Alaska, if your rep. in Washington doesn’t call him and btch. Act now or the only people that will be able to afford gas in the future will be Al Gore , Barbra Streisand  and Opra , and I doubt they ride.
